3 useful exercises for fighters

Don’t rush to rush into the ring before you’ve mastered them.

Fighters need to improve their skills all the time to win in the ring. Experienced athletes hone their skills in sparring, but beginners may be far away from training fights. That’s when single exercises and basic training near the punching bag come to your aid – with their help you can pump up your striking technique, make your attack stronger and more accurate. However, we want to warn you: don’t think that training without an opponent or even without a punching bag will be easy.

I will show you basic exercises that will help even a beginner to improve his striking technique, accuracy and strength.

Shadow fighting with weights.

Narek: Work with weights for a while and then give them up. You will feel how fast your hands are, your punch will be more accurate and stronger.

Technique

  • Take in each hand any weights: dumbbells of small weight, stones or balls. Stand in a standing position, do not move from your seat during the exercise.
  • Hit directly in front of you. Even if you have no technique, work the way you know how. You can do both straight punches and side kicks.
  • If you have some experience, you can try hitting on the move, moving in a circle.

Intercepting the weight with your hand

Despite the fact that this exercise looks quite easy, it will be very difficult to perform it from the first time. If you are practicing at home and have never used this exercise before, try doing it with something softer instead of a dumbbell. This way you will avoid injury and will not break the floor in your apartment.

Technique

  • Take in one hand a small dumbbell or any other weight that is comfortable to hold. Stand in a standing position.
  • Make a “blow” in front of you with the hand in which the weight is located.
  • Now release the weight and at the same time strike with your free hand so that you can intercept the projectile flying downwards. Return the other hand to the starting position.
  • If you have understood the principle of the exercise, you can try to hone your side kicks with it.
  • The faster you manage to do this exercise, the better your coordination and the stronger and more accurate your punches.

Technique

  • Stand in front of the punching bag and start hitting it with straight punches. You can hit hard, fully investing in the punch to work on its power.
  • Or you can hit more lightly, so you can refine your technique and accuracy.
  • Most importantly, protect your hands: it is better if you train with gloves or at least bandages.

If you have recently started practicing martial arts, don’t rush into the ring. Martial arts require patience, diligence and regular practicing of skills. You will probably spend a lot of time, but you will be very satisfied with the result.
