Let’s find out together with the doctor.
It is said that a glass of red wine brings more health benefits than any other type of alcohol. In the 1980s, scientists even suggested that thanks to the effect of this drink, residents of some countries are less likely to suffer from heart disease. But is this really the case?

Red wine contains resveratrol, a component that slows down the aging process: it stops the oxidation of fats and absorbs free radicals (one of the causes of aging).
In addition, the researchers found that drinking wine in small amounts slows down the aging process – similar to exercise and proper nutrition.
How does it work?
An experiment on mice showed that resveratrol prevents the destruction of synapses in the brain – they transmit a nerve impulse from one neuron to another. Scientists included this natural compound in the subjects’ diets and found healthier neuromuscular junctions in the rodents after a year.
But: a glass and a bottle of wine are not the same thing. Those who don’t moderate put themselves at risk for liver disease, cancer, hypertension, heart disease and gastrointestinal problems. Sleep disturbance, high blood pressure, weakened immunity, development of depression, irritability – all these are also consequences of wine abuse.
What can be substituted for wine?
Red wine contains a small amount of resveratrol, which slows down aging. But this substance can be found in other foods: plums, peanuts, pomegranate, green tea, cherries, grapes, dark chocolate.
Conclusion. Red wine is not the elixir of youth. One glass of the drink is not enough to completely slow down the aging process. And alcohol is alcohol. You can’t do without proper nutrition and physical activity.
