What happens if you lower the degree

It’s not just about hangovers. Such “experiments” can lead to more serious consequences.

The consequences of noisy parties few people keep from drinking alcoholic beverages in the future. Here the question arises: can the risk of ill health and negative consequences be reduced if alcohol is consumed “correctly”? Which drinks can be mixed and which cannot? And what happens if you lower the degree?

For our body, alcohol will always be a toxin that we need to get rid of. Receptors give a signal to the brain that harmful ethanol needs to be broken down into water and aldehyde – they are not so dangerous. That’s how the defense mechanism works. And the strength of the drink plays not the last role here.

What happens when mixing different alcohols

The stronger the alcoholic beverage we drink, the more intensively the protection will be triggered to neutralize ethanol in the body. If the strength is higher, the body has to use more resources to neutralize poisonous substances. It is important that the rate of cleavage can only be adjusted upwards. Therefore, if you first drink a stronger drink, and then lower the degree, the receptors will not have time to adjust the mode of processing ethanol.

In this case, excessive amounts of aldehyde (a harmful substance) will accumulate in the body. Simply put, if you first drink 40° vodka and then switch to 16° wine, the body will simply not have time to readjust to the processing of a less strong drink.

What drinks should not be mixed

From the point of view of well-being, the most unsuccessful and dangerous are considered such combinations:

  • vodka and champagne;
  • whiskey and wine;
  • cognac and beer;
  • rum and liqueurs.

Drinking such “nuclear” combinations on an empty stomach can lead to unfortunate consequences. As a result, you will face not an ordinary hangover, but a state of severe alcohol poisoning. There may be headaches, blood pressure spikes, nausea and vomiting.

Another dangerous combination is alcohol and energy drinks. Their combined use can lead to hypertensive crisis – a sharp increase in blood pressure. Such a mix disturbs the kidneys and heart and can even cause seizures. Other dangers of energy drinks are described in the article at the link below.

How to avoid a strong hangover

To avoid hangovers, of course, it is better not to drink alcohol at all. But if there is no way without it, do not forget about food. The best option will be fatty food. It is also worth drinking more water and more often go out into the fresh air. And limit yourself to one particular drink, and in small quantities. About whether there is a safe dose of alcohol, read in the previous material at the link below.
