“Investing in yourself is a way to invest money, time and effort into yourself so that you can benefit from it: increase your income, build relationships, improve your health and emotional well-being. You can invest in education, sports, mental and physical health”.
Where to start?
The first step is to analyze what exactly you need to change in your life. After figuring this out, you need to set goals. For example:
- to get your body in fitness and nutrition;
- learning how to deal with your emotions;
- find your footing;
- improve relationships;
- learn a foreign language;
- earn more money.
Then you need to see what courses and programs will help you to solve these problems. The principle of “I do it myself” will not help here. If the problem exists, it means that you can’t cope with it “on your own”.
At the beginning of each week, write down individual goals to keep you on track. This will help you prioritize, clarify your focus of attention. This way you’ll know exactly what you need and what you don’t need. Check against your goals each time before investing. Spontaneous and emotional purchases are rarely helpful.
Questions to help form a plan for investing in yourself might be as follows.
- What area of my life do I want to improve?
- What skills and knowledge are important to gain in order to do so?
- How much time am I willing to commit to this?
- How much finance am I willing to allocate to this?
- What will I have to give up?
- What will I gain?
- How will it improve my life?
Gaining knowledge
Information in today’s world quickly becomes outdated. New professions, resources, venues emerge and new knowledge is required. That’s why the information business is booming. All you have to do is open your phone or computer and start learning. The ease of the process simultaneously generates its complexity. Often the information in one course contradicts what is taught in another. Of course, every expert claims to be right. This is stressful for the brain.
The easiest thing to do before buying a course is not to look at the number of subscribers and likes, but to check the relevant education and professional experience. As a rule, all diplomas and certificates of education are available on the expert’s website. In addition, it is important to get assurances that in case the training is not suitable, there will be an opportunity for a partial or full refund.
It is important to realize that all responsibility for taking the course and completing the assignments falls on you. Buying does not mean that you automatically get the knowledge. You will have to open lessons, listen to lectures and do homework, take exams or do final tests.
If you bought several courses at the same time, you will have to do all this in parallel. It makes sense to rationalize your efforts. Do you have the resources to do it now?
At the same time, online education, if it is of high quality, can increase intrinsic motivation to learn and gives you the opportunity to interact with the expert himself, whose experience and knowledge are of particular value. It also expands social connections, as the training will have chat rooms of participants with whom you will have to interact.
Physical Health
We usually think about health when we start to get sick and lose it. We realize that we were probably doing something wrong and we go to the doctor. However, it is better to start with preventive medicine – that which prevents diseases. This can be consultations with a psychosomatologist, nutritionist, osteopath, nutritionist, specialist in integral medicine.
The main thing is to start implementing the recommendations after the consultation: change the daily routine, follow the diet, drink vitamins, do certain exercises, actively fight self-sabotage and procrastination.
It might make sense to go to the seaside and invest in traveling instead of studying to stay healthy. The body needs rest and the brain needs a reboot. It’s important to consider your body’s needs too and act on that.
Mental health
During the covid period, psychotherapy became more accessible. It has “digitized.” Now you don’t have to make an appointment, wait your turn, drive to an appointment and sit in the patient’s chair. There are a large number of online platforms where you can choose a specialist based on your budget and get a consultation literally on the day of the request.
It is important that you are in a private and safe place (home, car, park) and can talk freely about your problem. Taking care of your mental health reduces stress levels and improves your physical well-being, among other things. If psychotherapy is made long-term and planned, after a few years the person will become more mature and calm, gaining an understanding of what suits him better.
Work with thinking
To look at the world in a new way, it is important to form a different mindset. Many people think that such things are handled by a psychotherapist. This is a mistake. A psychotherapist works with the past, he helps to get out of difficult states, to work through traumas. To change your life dramatically, it’s important to do things differently. This is where other experts come to the rescue – coaches and mentors.
Their task is to guide you to a new vision through questions, to jointly form a plan for your life and support you on your way to it. It is important that the mentor has expertise in your chosen field and has achieved success there himself. For example, if it’s about money, he or she should know how to make money and have a successful business. If it’s a relationship topic, the mentor is doing well in his personal life. If it’s a manifestation topic, he or she is active at events or on stage, not sitting in the shadows.
A coach doesn’t necessarily have to have it all. What is important is his professionalism and ability to lead the session. Therefore, he should have a certificate of relevant education and positive feedback from clients. A coach without a certificate and a mentor without social proof is always a risk of running into a false expert and not getting what you came for.
الرياضة
The online workout format has gained popularity in the covid times and is actively competing with classes at the fitness club. People who don’t have the opportunity to go to the gym can lead an active lifestyle by turning on their phone and starting a workout outside or at home. Yoga, dance, strength training, stretching, Pilates – all of these are available online and offline. The class will be especially effective if a trainer is watching you, correcting you and giving you advice. When you work out alone, there is always a chance of slacking off or doing an exercise incorrectly.
