Benefits of berry tea for health

Svetlana Kanevskaya

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, expert of the medical center “Manor Medical” (Israel)

“Berry tea is beneficial for health due to the combination of nutrients: vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that improve overall health.”

Benefits include the following properties:

1. Immunity boosting. Berry tea is rich in vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system. In addition, being a source of antioxidants, such a drink protects us from free radicals. For example, goji berry tea is also a popular immunity booster. It contains vitamins A, E and C, strengthens the immune system and increases the production of white blood cells.

2- Skin Purification. The vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in berries help fight acne, help moisturize the skin and protect its natural barrier.

For example, cherry tea is known to have a detoxifying effect on the skin and body. Vitamin C also promotes collagen production, which has anti-aging properties.

3. Improved heart health. Dried berries, orange zest and raspberries are rich in antioxidants, which some studies show can lower blood cholesterol levels. Other fruits such as apples, strawberries and lemon contain pectin, a type of fiber that lowers “bad” cholesterol. Pomegranate tea lowers blood pressure, ensuring good health for your heart.

4. Digestive aid. Many berry teas are used in traditional medicine as a remedy for stomach ailments. Strawberry leaf tea relieves stomach pain and supports intestinal health. The nutrients in blackberry tea have also been shown to relieve stomach discomfort.

Consider trying a berry blend mixed with gut-healthy herbs, such as ginger tea for greater effectiveness or chamomile.

5. Hormone regulation. Raspberry leaf tea is beneficial in many areas of women’s health, which is why it has been called “women’s tea” for centuries. In its long history of use in phytotherapy, raspberry leaf tea has been suggested as a remedy for everything from painful menstruation to strained labor and fertility problems. This is due to the high content of plant estrogen in raspberries.

6. Reducing inflammation. Some berry teas have strong anti-inflammatory properties. Phenolic compounds in cherries, peaches and apricots reduce inflammation and associated pain or swelling.

Contraindications

Berry tea is not recommended for people with allergies. Consumption of a drink made from allergenic berries (strawberries, strawberries, raspberries, currants, cherries) can provoke an undesirable reaction: from hives to Quincke’s edema and life-threatening anaphylactic shock.

Types of berry tea

There are many berries and therefore a wide variety of types of berry tea.

  • The first kind is tea made from fresh berries. They should be poured with water and allowed to infuse. However, not all berries will do. For example, pieces of strawberries will give the drink a subtle flavor, while raspberries will simply disintegrate, and blueberries will not infuse, will not give any taste and aroma.
  • Next is dried berries. This is the most common way to make tea. The fruits are preliminarily finely chopped and dried.
  • Finally, a berry-tea blend. In addition to dried berries, tea makers may use other herbal ingredients and different teas, such as rooibos or black tea.

The most popular berries for brewing tea are:

  • blackberries;
  • blackcurrant;
  • blueberries;
  • cherries;
  • blackcurrant; black mountain ash;
  • cranberries;
  • currants;
  • elderberry;
  • goji;
  • pomegranate;

  • strawberry.

How to brew berry tea

The most important thing is to choose the ingredients. Berries that you like in fresh form are best suited, they can be combined with each other. Also in such a tea you can add herbs or fruits.

If they are fresh berries, then they need to be thoroughly washed under running water, cleaned of leaves and stems. If you want to use frozen fruits, then they need to be defrosted in advance, since sharp temperature changes can adversely affect the nutritional composition of the drink.

Brew berry tea can be both in a teapot and in a separate mug. Fill the fruit with boiling water, water at a temperature of 80-85 degrees Celsius is perfect.

As for the duration of brewing, it is enough for berry tea from 5 to 10 minutes.
