The secrets of a youthful mind and body from Diane Keaton. Is it all about vegetarianism?

In 2020, Diane Keaton celebrated her 75th birthday. The star of “The Godfather” and Woody Allen’s muse manages to look great, even after the eighth decade. About her really can be said “noble old age”. Despite the venerable years, Keaton has never turned to the help of plastic surgeons. What is her secret and how she keeps her youth and beauty?

In an interview, Diane said that when she was 14, she made a whole list of daily activities “for beauty”. At that time, it seemed to the girl from Northern California that it was simply necessary to meet the recognized standards. She had to sleep with an invisible tip on the tip of her nose to make it thinner. Every day she had to do eye exercise for half an hour – Keaton believed that so they will seem bigger. In addition, the future actress rehearsed her smile in front of the mirror and practiced different emotions to look more natural.

After several decades, one Oscar and two Golden Globes, Keaton’s attitude to her appearance has definitely changed. The actress adheres to simple rules and prefers minimalism in both care and makeup. And physical activity helps her to keep her tone. Here are a few principles that Keaton follows.

Sunscreen – the basis of care

Diane prefers simple but effective care, and sunscreen is a must in her makeup bag. But many people underestimate the importance of this product. It’s not about aristocratic pallor or tan a la Bali – excessive exposure to sunlight not only accelerates skin aging, but can provoke a number of diseases, including cancer.

Keaton herself has twice faced malignant formations: at the age of 21 and a few years ago. Therefore, she, more than anyone else, realizes how important UV protection is.

“No” to plastic surgery

The actress has repeatedly stated that she has no plans to have plastic surgery. At least not yet. Diane simply does not see the point in reshaping the face or the body. “I think like this: everyone has hands, and they are constantly on view. It’s very strange when your hands don’t match your face. My hands look my age. They’ve been through a lot and it’s noticeable!”, Keaton told People.

I don’t know if I want to mess around with all that [surgery]… Because no matter what you do, you invariably get older – nothing lasts forever.

Brisk walking and an exercise bike

Although Keaton is far from exercising regularly, she doesn’t forget about physical activity. Staying energized and feeling better helps her stay on the treadmill and exercise bike.

“I walk [on the treadmill] and walk really fast to sweat it out. But no running. It’s too hard. Walking fast already gives me enough energy to feel good throughout the day,” the actress admits. And saikling classes Diane attends with her daughter Dexter. “I know I’m using my body to the max in those 45 minutes,” she says.

Vegetarianism

As early as 22, Keaton considered herself fat despite her slim figure. Woody Allen’s muse would break down, eating 20,000 calories before inducing vomiting. Then her typical daily diet looked like this: fried chicken, several portions of french fries with ketchup and cheese with blue mold, soda, a lot of candy, a whole cake and three buns with banana cream. Diane became ill while preparing for the Broadway show “Hair” when she was asked to lose weight for the role. To return to a normal diet, the actress had to visit a psychoanalyst five times a week for a year.

In recent years, Keaton has been practicing vegetarianism. She gave up meat and fish, but continues to use eggs and cheese. In general, the actress is careful about what goes into her diet. She is glad that she has come to this realization, especially after struggling with bulimia when she was younger.

A fulfilling life

Diane believes that the secret to youthfulness is an active and busy life. In her 75th birthday she is not sitting still: she still attends social events, gives interviews, socializes with friends and even makes movies. The last movie with her participation – “Pompoms” – was released in 2019.

The actress believes that one should live in such a way that there is simply no time left to look at every detail of one’s face in the mirror. “Distract yourself! Live a rich, full life and stop looking at your reflection all the time already,” Diane urges.
