Kukmorskaya Mountain

The nearest neighbor of Vyatskie Polyany, the town of Kukmor, is very lucky with its residents. In the 60’s they planted thousands of pine and birch saplings on the slope of the mountain of the same name, for which they are grateful not only to their direct descendants, but also to many residents of Tatarstan and Vyatka. For 60 years the bald mountain has turned into a huge forest area with terroirs and its own ski base. Apart from eco-enthusiasts, Kukmor is famous for producing 1.5 million valenoks annually: this craft is so popular here that a festival is even dedicated to it. By the standards of the Russian province, Kukmor is a landmark town: clean, pleasant and very photogenic. It definitely deserves to make a small railroad detour from Kazan.
