Why do brands create collaborations with cartoon and comic book characters?

Creating things with characters from your favorite animated movies or books is a very difficult, but incredibly interesting task for designers. The difficulty is that clothes and shoes need to be stylish, and prints with animated characters can make them too naive and not meant to be worn in everyday life. In recent months there have been several successful, in our opinion, collaborations with our childhood heroes. We tell you more about them in this article.

“Monster Corporation” and adidas

This year the cartoon “Monsters Corporation” turns 20 years old, so adidas and Pixar teamed up to create an anniversary collection. It includes several models of sneakers of the sports brand, hoodies, T-shirts, gloves and even basketball and tennis balls.

All things are dedicated to the main characters of the animated movie. The line includes several models of sneakers at once. Here you can find a print in the form of Mike Wazowski’s eye, fur inserts, bright neon colors and the inscription You and I are a team, which, by the way, is repeated on each thing from the collection.

“Soyuzmultfilm and Monochrome

The new collection of the Russian brand is inspired by the cartoons “Bremen Musicians” and “Winnie the Pooh”. Cartoon characters, their quotes and familiar symbols from the films, such as card suits of robbers or eggs in stands, which the king from “Bremen Musicians” ate, appeared on Monochrome’s oversize models.

The collection features bright sweaters with geometric and floral prints, cardigan with seamless patterns, voluminous shirts with drawings, as well as sweatshirts and T-shirts. Also, designers have managed to come up with bag bags that will allow your basic look to become more interesting.

“Batman” and Lanvin

French fashion house Lanvin and movie studio Warner Bros. Pictures presented a joint spring-summer-2022 collection at Paris Fashion Week. On the catwalk presented clothes and sneakers, which appeared Batman in the legendary bat mask. Images of iconic comic book characters such as Batman and Catwoman were reworked by the creators into graphic prints.

For example, the models wore an oversize shirt, an elongated hoodie and a beige jacket with a portrait of the main character and a cropped top with the Batmobile. The sneakers, made of dark purple suede with blue inserts, designers added a wide lace and a large tongue in the form of Batman’s masked head.

“The Simpsons” and Balenciaga

Cooperation of famous brands with cartoon producers ends not only with new collections, but also with shows at Fashion Week. Recently there was a sensational Balenciaga show, in which the spring collection was shown not on the usual models, but on characters from The Simpsons. The designer of the brand Demna Gvasalia suggested to the authors of the animated picture to create a series with Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, Anna Wintour and other celebrities in the main roles to demonstrate his new collection.

In the episode, Homer Simpson begged Balenciaga’s creative director to borrow a dress for the cartoon character, Marge. This led to the entire town of Springfield showing up at the Balenciaga show during Paris Fashion Week, and Anna Wintour even cried at the sight of Marge in a gold dress.
