5 unusual cases at sporting events

Some of them are very ridiculous and funny. Others could cost athletes not only medals, but also their lives.

Significant sporting events are always accompanied by close public attention. However, not always everything goes according to plan. Sometimes the organizers, fans or athletes themselves create ridiculous situations that are hard to believe. We have collected five stories from sporting events that are sure to surprise you.

Lucky ticket

In one of the stadiums of Barcelona, where the Olympic Games were held in 1992, among other forgotten things was found a check for $ 40 thousand. Subsequently, no one ever showed up for it.

Unsuccessful marathon

The 1904 Olympics were in St. Louis. The marathon, which was held during the games, can rightly be called one of the most unsuccessful: only 18 out of 32 athletes ran to the finish line. Many inhaled dust on the way and ran off the course.

The winner of the race – American Thomas Hicks – was given rat poison during the race to stimulate muscle activity. The runner several times found himself on the verge of losing consciousness, and after the marathon he was pumped out by medics for about an hour.

John Lortz and another athlete decided to make life easier for themselves and run 14 km by car. The system was not fooled and the ruse was quickly discovered.

Three other participants were even less lucky: one of them had a stomach hemorrhage right during the competition and had to stop the race. Another had a bite of an apple on the way to the finish line, which turned out to be rotten. The athlete also had to withdraw from the race due to stomach pain. The third participant, South African runner Len Taunyani, was almost eaten alive as he was running away from a pack of wild dogs in a cornfield.

Flying Mike

There are many ways to show appreciation for your favorite team. If you think organizing a trip to another city to support the players from the stands is a big deal, a New York Mets baseball fan is in a hurry to disappoint you. Mike Sergio was into skydiving and flew over the stadium during the game with a “Go Mets” banner as a show of support for the team. The organizers of the event did not expect such a prank, so immediately after landing Sergio was removed from the field. But fans and players appreciated his sudden appearance.

Deer Coup

At first glance at this video you may think that the animals escaped from the zoo and attacked people. But this is just a traditional marathon that takes place in the Japanese city of Nara. The deer are an asset to this village and are cared for here.

According to legend, the god of thunder arrived in Nara on a white deer to guard the newly built capital. Since then, locals have considered these animals as divine creatures that protect their city.

The deer are protected and are not afraid of humans. The number of animals in the city reaches up to 1200, and they feel perfectly in the crowd. However, they also tear off the markings on the marathon route, confusing beginners. Runners only have to wait and take pictures with the violators, and the organizers present it as a feature of the race.
