trendsetter of directing events, founder of TOBELOVE agency
Any event project is a small life. At the same time, the laws of directing, according to which the event is built, are quite universal. They can be applied in your own life to achieve impressive results in different spheres. The position of the director (and at the same time the spectator) changes the vision and opens up many ways to make your reality brighter and richer.
Here are five tips to help you take this position.
Tip #1. Listen to your inner tuning fork
The success of a project depends largely on how much the goal aligns with the true inner query. For example, the bride and groom dream of a chamber wedding at the end of the world, but lean toward a classic large-scale celebration in Moscow as a more “suitable” option. In such a situation, even the highest level of performance of the second scenario will not bring satisfaction.
It is the same in life. No matter how worthy the goal may seem, if it is not yours, you will not get the expected effect. But you will spend many times more energy to achieve it.
Therefore, listen to your inner tuning fork and regularly calibrate your choices according to it. Do you feel emotionally uplifted after making a decision? Most likely, you are going in the right direction. Do you feel frustration and tension? Try looking for a goal that will really energize you and fill you with energy.
And when you find it, be sure to give it a concrete shape. What result will bring you satisfaction? What markers will let you know you’ve done it? Use numbers, facts, emotions. The clearer you spell out all these details at the start, the brighter and more meaningful your path will be.
Tip #2. Gather a team
Some goals, of course, can be accomplished alone. More often than not, these are some personal stories. For example, start running in the morning or give up coffee. Even here, though, the support of a professional or partner will be a great help.
But when it comes to ambitious business goals, you can’t do without a team. What is a serious problem for one, for another turns out to be an elementary matter. And that’s a fact that shouldn’t be ignored.
A talented director not only creates a cool vision of the project, he clearly understands who will help him realize the idea in reality. Therefore, formulate tasks and assess what competencies are needed to fulfill them. Find professionals who already have these competencies. And delegate! Together you will reach the goal much faster.
Tip #3. Make a roadmap and keep timing
The movement of our attention is sometimes like a monkey jumping from branch to branch. We get swamped by a series of worries, the daily routine drags us down like a swamp, and we lose sight of the main thing – targeted actions that help us get closer to the desired result.
Be sure to prioritize your tasks and make a “road map” – a list of intermediate results with deadlines for their achievement. Eat your “elephant” piece by piece and make sure you have a menu in advance.
To make it easier to keep the timing, don’t forget to add time for rest and come up with a system of incentives. Then you’ll be more motivated and have fewer reasons to quit.
Tip #4: Experiment
A person adapts and acquires habits quite quickly. Some actions we begin to perform automatically, and it saves time and internal resource. But the mechanism has a reverse side. If we constantly act according to the same script (even the coolest one), over time we find out that it works worse and worse, and we are treading water.
If you’re serious about becoming the director of your life, practice being creative on a regular basis. Do you feel that you are stuck on some problem and the usual strategy of behavior does not solve it? Step aside. Look at the situation from a different angle. Think about what you can do differently. Throw any ideas, including the craziest ones. Among them may be “the one”.
Tip #5. Give yourself a second chance
Even with the coolest director, something can go wrong. Deadlines burn, force majeure happens. At times like these, the most important thing is not to engage in self-defeating behavior. Otherwise, you just turn the tumbler of guilt to such a high level that you will be crushed and paralyzed by it. Agree, in such a state it will be difficult to fix something.
So stop with the reflection and tune in to work on your mistakes. Remember: you can always make another attempt. If it didn’t work out this time, it will definitely work out the next time.
