How to choose the right mattress? What to pay attention to when buying a mattress?

A mattress supports our body at least 7-7.5 hours a day. This is how long an adult should rest at night. Because of an incorrectly selected mattress, the quality and depth of sleep deteriorate, back pain, neck pain and other parts of the body appear. In addition, in some cases, the wrong choice of mattress can contribute to the development of diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

If you answered most of the questions positively, it’s definitely time to change your mattress.

How soft your mattress should be

Posture is something you need to look after at all times, including at night. To do this, you need a good mattress that will keep your body in the physiologically correct position.

When choosing, it is important not to make a mistake with the stiffness of the product. When sleeping on a mattress that is too soft, the spine sags, as a result of which the muscles are constantly overstretched and back and neck pains occur. Buying an excessively hard mattress is also not worth it. In this case, you can forget about comfort. Sleeping on a hard mattress puts a lot of pressure on the spine, which is also often the cause of painful sensations.

It is better to buy a mattress of medium firmness – the product will provide the necessary support to the spine. At the same time, you will be comfortable sleeping on it. But it should be taken into account that comfort is a very individual parameter. Before buying a mattress, be sure to lie on it for 5-10 minutes to determine whether it is suitable for you.

What size mattress to choose

During the night a person makes 50-60 different movements and turns over at least 10 times. Make sure that the size of the bed is suitable for such maneuvers. It is desirable that the mattress should be at least 15 centimeters longer than the height of a person. At the same time, it should be wide enough – then it will be convenient for you to turn from side to side in your sleep.

What material is better to buy a mattress from

When making mattresses, manufacturers use different materials: latex, coir, wool, polyurethane foam, hollofiber. The combination of the last two in one product is the best option. Polyurethane foam perfectly supports the spine, while the chollofiber gives the mattress elasticity and provides good air exchange. It is recommended to choose products with memory effect, thanks to which the mattress follows the shape of the body, supports the spine and relieves the joints.

What to pay attention to when buying

If you buy an orthopedic mattress, be sure to check the registration certificate of Roszdravnadzor. The presence of such a document indicates that in front of you is a medical product with proven effectiveness.
