How to keep your brain healthy and your mind clear for years to come. 8 simple steps

If you offer your brain new activities every day, get moderate exercise, watch your diet and socialize regularly, there is no reason for your intelligence to decline.

If a person’s muscles don’t work due to injury, they begin to shrivel up, shrink in size. It is the same with the brain, if it is not used – it begins to degenerate. Therefore, in order for the brain to work well, it is absolutely necessary to exercise it.

How to train the brain

The brain works by thinking, and it is expressed in language, text. Therefore, working with large amounts of text allows you to maintain the functioning of the brain as a thinking apparatus for a long time. That is, there may already be movement disorders in parkinsonism, emotional impairment, but the cognitive sphere will work.

There are professions in which people retain mental clarity for quite a long time: politicians, journalists, writers, actors, translators, reviewers. They all work with large amounts of text. Journalists and writers create it, actors and politicians memorize and reproduce it.

It is said that learning one additional foreign language can delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease by 15 years. Approximately so, but the language should not just learn, but constantly speak it, work with volumes of text. That helps a lot.

Just memorize poetry, as some advise, it is not that, because the information is stored and, not in demand, forgotten. And the text must be reproduced – to immerse in memory and unload from it.

And it is very desirable to write, to put words into sentences. You can write anything: memoirs, books, blog posts. The more work with the text, the longer the work of the brain as an organ is preserved.

We must remember that the brain is the organ most sensitive to nutrient deficiencies. It dies much faster from lack of oxygen than any other tissue (faster than the heart). That is, first a person loses consciousness, and then the processes of organ dying off will begin.

It is also necessary not to wear out the brain. All organs, overstretching, begin to slowly die off, there is a limit to the strength of any of them.

How to keep your brain young and healthy?

Anastasia Naydenko

coach, teacher

The issue of declining mental abilities with age worries many who have crossed the threshold of middle age.

Fortunately, brain science is not standing still, and you can take steps in advance to keep your “gray cells” healthy and young.

Sleep

Getting at least eight hours of sleep a day on a regular basis keeps the brain organized. Such sleep improves memory and learning ability. Because during sleep, the brain works hard, analyzing the events of the day and arranging the information received “on the shelves”.

Get moving

Studies show that regular physical activity increases the number of blood vessels that deliver oxygen-rich blood to the area of the brain responsible for thinking.
An oxygenated brain is adaptive and works efficiently.

Carve out time in your personal schedule for regular exercise and walking.

Learn new things

The brain feels great when it receives information. Therefore, learn new things every day. Find a hobby, read, take up a foreign language or music, travel, cook new dishes, try doing familiar activities in a different way.

Eat right

For the “gray cells” to work smoothly, it is necessary to give the right food. Foods rich in amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals improve brain function.

It is worth including in your diet: whole grains, walnuts, almonds, cashews, pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, strawberries, black currants, blueberries, blackberries, pomegranate, tomatoes, avocados, broccoli, garlic, fish, eggs, green tea, dark chocolate.

Communicate

Strong bonds with family, friends, and pets increase longevity. Positive emotional connections promote an active lifestyle and better emotional health. Isolation can negatively affect some people.

Make time for yourself

Being alone with your thoughts is just as important for brain health as socializing with other people. Take this time for yourself or a favorite activity, hobby, meditation, write a journal, or go for a walk.

Make healthy habits

What we do day to day affects our financial, emotional, professional development and health. We’ve compiled a list of helpful habits for you that won’t take much effort or time.

Take a closer look at your habits. Focus on creating healthy habits that make life better and more enjoyable.

Laugh

Laughter reduces stress levels, increases longevity, boosts immunity, improves relationships with others, and provides a sense of well-being. It is beneficial to laugh every day.
