How to make dalgon coffee to make sure it’s popular for a reason
We share the perfect recipe for the airy drink and its healthy variation.
Not so long ago, a drink with a thick foam – dalgona-coffee – began to gain popularity in social networks. On Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, there are endless videos and recipes for making it. Dalgona coffee looks both delicious and beautiful. We decided to share not only a classic, but also a healthy version of this drink.
Where did dalgona-coffee come from?
The trend of making dalgona-coffee started with the people of South Korea, who decided to share their “quarantine” recipe, and it quickly spread around the world. Of course, it’s not exactly an innovation. “Whipped” coffee was available in India and Pakistan. In Korea, the drink became so famous thanks to actor Jung Il-woo, who tried it in a TV show. He also named it “dalgon” after similar Korean street sweets. Local bloggers immediately picked up on the idea and launched a massive movement to make this coffee on social media.
How to make dalgon coffee?
To make a classic version of the coffee drink, you will need:
- Sugar
- Soluble coffee
- Hot water
- Milk
Sugar, coffee and hot water should be mixed in a proportion of 1:1:1:1 and whipped with a mixer until a thick foam appears. It should turn a beautiful caramel color.
If you do not have a mixer at hand, you can use a regular whisk. But you will have to whisk for quite a long time – about eight minutes, so be patient.
In a glass pour hot or cold milk (if desired, you can add ice), and pour the resulting thick foam on top. You can decorate with grated chocolate or cinnamon. Enjoy!
How to prepare dalgona-coffee in the pp variant?
Sugar in the composition of the drink for adherents of a healthy diet sounds frightening. But do not despair, for zoogeeks, we together with nutritionist and expert of “Championship” Anna Berseneva prepared some ideas for a proper and healthy recipe.
- Instead of sugar, you can take a mix of erythritol and stevia – 2 tablespoons.
- Instead of instant coffee – 2 tablespoons of strongly brewed ground coffee.
- Instead of traditional milk – 2 glasses of coconut milk.
- Additionally, you can add 2 tablespoons of coconut milk powder for a creamier texture.
The milk can be anything – coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, oat milk. Alternatively, coffee can be substituted for cocoa or yerba mate tea.
Such a useful variation of the preparation of the drink will not only help you enjoy its delicious taste and appearance, but will also have a positive effect on your health.
