A doctor has told us what the dangers of painkillers can be

Do painkillers really make things worse? Can pain become chronic if you take pills?

Let’s find out together with your doctor.

How often do you deal with pain? Dental, headache, joint, muscle spasms – all these troubles, as a rule, take us by surprise. And in the race of modern life we more and more often put off the search for the cause of pain for later, and sometimes we even let ourselves live with it. But what can this lead to?

Analgesics can cause serious imbalances in the body.

According to the doctor, although analgesics can relieve pain for a short time, but they do it by inhibiting the production of neutrophils, necessary for vital processes in the body.

Svetlana: Neutrophils are special types of cells that help the body fight inflammation. They appear in abundance at the site of inflammation in the earliest stages and lay the foundation for repairing damaged tissue. If neutrophils are blocked, discomfort can last many times longer than when they are active. If neutrophils do not fulfill their function, the pain does not go away, but becomes latent and “lubricated”.

What can lead to a constant intake of painkillers

Analgesics can cause serious imbalances in the body. Constant intake of drugs can lead to damage to the mucosa of the stomach and intestines and to gastritis, provoke the occurrence of ulcers. The fact that taking painkillers suppresses the formation of prostaglandins (biologically active substances) on the mucous membranes, especially in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), resulting in a decrease in the protective function of mucous membranes.

Svetlana: Prostaglandins, among other things, dilate blood vessels. If their activity and production is suppressed, the kidneys may suffer. Due to impaired circulation of blood and fluid in the body, the organs begin to receive insufficient oxygen and can not fully function. Which in the long run can lead to heart and kidney failure.

How to get rid of pain without medication

Many people are used to the idea that acute pain can be quickly drowned out with a pill. But it is not at all worth postponing a full-fledged therapy and search for the real cause. Only a doctor can find out what is wrong and make a diagnosis.

In addition to medication, there are other ways to relieve pain – a symptom, but not the root cause.

  • Massage – gently stroking over the epicenter of pain.
  • Cold or dry heat to the painful area, which, along with massage, helps to extinguish the pain impulse in the spinal cord.
  • Regularly performing exercises aimed at relaxing the muscles. Ample physical activity prevents “stiffening” of muscles and connects the brain to activities that distract it from analyzing pain.
