What is considered overweight?

A person is beautiful with any figure. But sometimes it’s not a matter of appearance and tastes, but of health.

“Loves and such”, “a good man should be a lot” – so often say when they want to justify their excess weight. And all that would be nothing, but overweight is not so much a matter of appearance, but a serious problem that provokes malfunctions in the body. What is considered overweight?

The concept of “overweight” is very broad. Someone considers small folds over jeans overweight, and for someone and 150 kg – the norm. However, from a medical point of view, there are clear indicators of overweight, or rather, excess fat (not muscle) body mass. It is this that becomes the problem.

According to medical data, the level of normal body fat is in the range of 21-31% for women and 14-25% for men. Anything above these norms is considered overweight. You can measure the percentage of body fat with the help of special devices.

How does excess body fat affect health?

Excess fat mass threatens very unfortunate consequences for health. The main ones include:

  • Cardiovascular diseases (in particular, heart disease and stroke);
  • type 2 diabetes;
  • musculoskeletal injuries such as osteoarthritis;
  • certain cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon cancer).

The fact is that being overweight puts a tremendous strain on the body. It’s like constantly carrying extra weight: neither the cardiovascular system nor the musculoskeletal system can constantly withstand it. In addition, when overweight grows into obesity, there is a failure in the work of internal organs.

How to lose weight correctly?

Overweight people are relatively difficult to lose weight, because they are contraindicated intensive loads. Therefore, the main task is to change the food system and gradually increase motor activity. And only when the weight comes to normal, you can begin to train hard and lose pounds.
