Where to go in Russia?

Some can be reached by car, to others – through a fascinating journey by sea.

During the unfavorable epidemiological situation in the world, many countries have closed entry for tourists. However, this is not a reason to be upset, because there is another reason to go on a tour of your native country. Since it is recommended to avoid large crowds in public places, and you do not want to sit at home, we have prepared a selection of natural treasures of Russia.

Dombai

Where: Karachay-Cherkess Republic.

Dombai is located at the foot of the Main Range of the Caucasus Mountains. Due to its favorable location, the famous Dombai glade offers a picturesque view of the peaks of Mussa-Achitara, Amanauz, Ertsog, Semyonov-Bashi, Sulakhat, Sofruju Belalakaya, Dombai-Ulgen and Ine Peak.

Tourists come here practically all year round. In winter time – to ride down the slopes on snowboards and skis, in other periods – for the sake of hiking, ropeway and sun. You can come here not only for the natural beauty: the Caucasus is famous for its health and healing resorts.

Kivach Waterfall

Where: Republic of Karelia.

Kivach is the second largest plain waterfall in Europe, and not the largest in Karelia – 11 meters high. But it is the one that most often attracts the attention of tourists. The waterfall, which means “swift” in Finnish, is surrounded by forests, for which the republic is famous. This breathtaking landscape makes photographers and nature lovers return to it again and again.

Vilyuchinskaya Sopka

Where: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

The height of the volcano is 2175 meters, it is considered to be extinct and can be seen almost from any point of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The best place to see it is considered to be the city center, the top of Nikolskaya Sopka. Vilyuchinsky Volcano is a popular route for climbing: 12 kilometers or 5 hours. But even if you look from afar or approach the slope, you will get a mesmerizing view.

Curonian Spit

Where: Curonian Bay, Kaliningrad Oblast.

The largest sandy spit in the world – it is almost 100 km long. It divides the freshwater Kursh Bay and the Baltic Sea and is recognized as a national park. Its northern boundaries run along the Russian-Lithuanian border, and 72% of the territory is occupied by forests.

Kolyuchin Island

Where: Chukchi Sea at the entrance to the Kolyuchin Bay.

This island has been preserved almost in pristine condition. Only in the south there are a few abandoned huts, otherwise there is wild nature. Greenland whales migratory routes pass nearby, and the island itself is the “maternity home” of polar bears and a favorite place for northern birds. Before traveling, you should take into account that the average annual temperature here is minus 9.5 degrees Celsius and there is no fresh water.
