Can ice cream spoil your figure?

Ice cream is a sweet and caloric product, unless you prepare it yourself. “Pure” ice cream we eat rarely, and sweet additives noticeably increase calories. The best way to cool down is to drink water, and instead of a chocolate or caramel treat for every day, choose a fruit sorbet.

Can it be useful?

Russia has produced bio ice cream. It is recommended to give it in kindergartens, schools and sanatoriums as a preventive measure against stomach diseases and colds. If the body is not weakened, regular portions of cold harden the throat. In biofreeze is added useful bacteria, probiotics, which support the microflora in the human body. It includes natural butter and milk, which contains vitamins and healthy fatty acids.

Nutriciologist and nutritionist Anna Berseneva believes that bio ice cream is really healthier than classic ice cream.

Anna: Such ice cream is easier to digest because of the auxiliary substances it contains. It is safer and therefore on the figure will not affect badly.

Like any sweet products, Anna advises to eat ice cream in the first half of the day: from 11:00 to 16:00.

Anna: At this time, the pancreas is in a more active state, so those carbohydrates and fats that come with ice cream are digested more easily. In the evening, the body should be recovering, not digesting the difficult foods we threw at it. But if you can not resist and ate something “forbidden”, you should go through.

Why is it better to give up ice cream in the heat?

In the heat of summer, ice cream is the most popular snack. However, it helps to cool down for a short time, because after a couple of minutes the body actively processes fats and carbohydrates. Energy is released, and as a result, body temperature rises.

To keep ice cream from melting, we try to eat it very quickly. However, rushing can provoke acute respiratory illness (ARI). Because of the temperature difference, there is a sharp cooling of the respiratory tract – the body is heated by heat, and the ice cream is very cold. This causes stress to the body. By the way, from icy drinks in the heat should also be refused.

How does ice cream affect the body?

Sugar combined with fat is addictive, so after one serving of ice cream we often reach for another. By the way, fancy frozen yogurts will not be the best alternative, because they usually add sweet toppings, sprinkles, cookies, marmalade and other flavor enhancers. All of these are calories.

Another seemingly less intimidating dessert is fruit ice. You shouldn’t go overboard with it either. It is made from juices, and they are known to sharply increase blood glucose levels, which causes an unscheduled release of insulin. Sugar from ice cream is just as quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, and the pancreas and liver suffer from this.

According to the nutritionist, ice cream is on the list of the most harmful products, from the point of view of Oriental medicine.

Anna: The body metabolizes fats and carbohydrates more easily when they come in a warm form. And ice cream is not an easy combination for the body.

What can be substituted for calorie-laden ice cream?

Sorbet is a less harmful alternative to plain ice cream. However, the dessert can not be called healthy and low-calorie because of the sugar in the composition. The basis for sorbet is a fruit or berry puree. Because of the fiber, sugar is absorbed into the blood more slowly – so there will be no insulin spike. By composition sorbet is very far from ice cream: it has less fat, no milk or cream. But it perfectly refreshes the taste buds. Sorbet will be a useful substitute for the usual ice cream, if it does not contain a lot of sugar.

How to choose a good ice cream?

Natural ice cream contains healthy acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes that stimulate metabolism. However, it is difficult to find a really high-quality product among the large selection on the shelves. You can be oriented on the following criteria:

  • Appearance. Crumpled, broken ice cream is likely to have been re-frozen. With improper storage, the dessert can become a breeding ground for germs and is capable of poisoning.
  • Label. Avoid the names “vegetable-cream”, “dairy with vegetable fats” and others. In such ice cream there are vegetable ingredients instead of milk, most often palm oil.
  • Composition. Good ice cream consists of milk fat. In a real ice cream, its share should be at least 12%. GOST does not allow the use of milk-containing raw materials instead of milk. Unfortunately, you can’t do without stabilizers, so look for a natural one: agar-agar or gelatin. There can not be water in any kind of filling, and the composition must begin with milk. Avoid scary names like tetrazine, carrageenan, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, which are often veiled with combinations of: E102, E466, E407.
