Going to the mountains: contests, snow park, parties and world snowboarding stars

This year, from March 29 to April 7, one of the largest snowboarding festivals Quiksilver New Star Camp will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Rosa Khutor resort in Sochi. For those who are still thinking about whether to go or not, and for those who have already bought a ticket and packed their snowboard, we tell you about the main events that are planned at the festival.

Training Day

When: March 30.

On this day you will be able to try out the snow park at an altitude of 1600 meters and get used to the slopes. Go Snowboarding, Go Ski and Go Surfing schools will start their daily work for those who decided to take up boarding, skiing and surfing for the first time or are not very confident in them. Experienced instructors and leading Russian athletes will tell you where to start and how to act correctly on the slope and waves. In the evening the Grand Opening party will be held at the concert venue “Rosa Hall”, where the British band Rudimental will perform. The artists have won numerous international awards, several platinum disks and are recognized by fans all over the world.

Contest New Star Invitational by Tinkoff

When: March 31.

The best Russian and foreign professional riders will compete on a ski jump with a span of more than 20 meters. The program will include two qualification stages and the final race, where each participant will have to demonstrate the technique and style of performing tricks. At sunset the legendary London Boiler Room party will take place. Special guest is British DJ Flava D. Her sets are mostly self-produced and mixes covering House, Garage and Grime. Flava D’s work has already attracted the attention of Fact, Mixmag, Dummy, SBTV, Resident Advisor. In the evening of the same day, Summer Of Haze, a Russian electronic artist hiding his face under a bandana, will perform as part of the Powerhouse Takeover showcase.

Speedtest Race competition

When: April 1.

Everyone will be able to try themselves in Banked slalom discipline. Two profiled tracks with contraclones will be specially constructed at the festival. The one who develops the maximum speed and wins all the heats will become the winner of the contest. In the evening in the cinema hall of the festival will be shown a new episode from the famous riders LINE TRAVELLING CIRCUS, and in the night program – the best house sets from the musical association Good Story.

The most exciting contest Roll The Dice

When: April 2.

This is the day when the most exciting contest of the festival will take place. The best snowboarders will perform tricks that will be determined by rolling giant dice. One dice is a selection of grabs, the other is a combination of spins. The game is an elimination game: the one who performs the task most clearly and stylishly goes to the next stage. Two finalists will fight for the main cup and a special prize from Red Bull. Canadian DJ Skratch Bastid, a three-time winner of Scribble Jam DJ Battle, will be responsible for the musical accompaniment of the competition. In the evening there will be the main after-party of the contest from resident DJs of the festival.

Roxy Day

When: April 3.

Competitions in the snow park and dance battles, as well as activities in the largest chill-out zone – this day, dedicated to the beautiful half of the festival participants, will be held with the support of the women’s brand Roxy. In the afternoon the musical mood will be created by ENCORE.SQUAD, and in the evening there will be a performance of a special guest from the USA – DJ Kesh.

Push the Limit Jibbing Session Contest

When: April 4.

On this day pro-riders and amateurs will meet on a jibbing spot and will be able to compete for the prize fund of the contest – 100 thousand rubles. Also in parallel will open a spot for extreme athletes: everyone will be able to show tricks on the railing, jibb-figure or slip wollride. In the evening will be the premiere of a movie about snowboarding “I want silence” from the team LIP CREW. For the night linap is responsible for the most underground snowboarding party – “SAX TUSA”.

DC Raffle Jam for amateurs

When: April 5.

Before the start, a raffle (raffle) is held among the participants, where a snow park figure is determined, on which athletes must demonstrate the style and quality of tricks execution for a certain time. The winner will get a chance to join the Russian team of DC pro-riders. After the contest and before the evening lecture you can relax on the apres-ski veranda in the bar: try cocktails from the special menu and admire the most beautiful sunsets of the resort.

Music Day

When: April 6.

From the morning there will be a contest for everyone in the snow park. It will be accompanied on stage by a specially invited artist. The task of all participants is to demonstrate the complexity of the trick execution, its style and creative use of the contest figure in the form of headphones. Afterwards, the main movie room of Quiksilver New Star Camp will show the movie Shaka (2018) by four-time world snowboarding champion Mathieu Crépel. The closing party Welcome to DARKSIDE will feature the legendary Ghostface Killah (one of the founding members of Wu-Tang Clan) and will be the most powerful closing party in the festival’s history.
