Thousands of cycling enthusiasts will ride through the streets of the city in colorful costumes and illuminate the capital’s roads with bright lights.

Today, July 6, Moscow will host the Night Cycling Festival. Traditionally, its participants wear unusual costumes and decorate their bicycles. This time the event is called “Luminous holiday”, so it will be twice as bright, spectacular and fun. It is expected that this year more than 20 thousand people will take part in the bike festival.

“On behalf of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we hold bike festivals in the capital every year to show how many fans this mode of transportation has. Registration for the night cycling race is open – we invite you to join the festival and become part of a friendly bicycle movement”, – said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov.

Time and place

On July 6, the gathering of participants will begin at 21:00 on Suvorovskaya Square. Entrance from the side of Seleznyovskaya and Durova streets. The start is scheduled for 22:00. The direction of movement of the column of participants will pass through the central part of Moscow towards Tsvetnoy Boulevard along the section of the Boulevard Ring with exit to Prechistenskaya Embankment. From 21:00 to 00:00 there will be a festival town with various activities, interactive zones and a food court.

Registration of participants

Participation in the night cycling marathon is free for everyone over 16 years old. It is important to register in advance on the official website of the event and get an individual participant number. You can print it out and attach it to your clothes or bike.

What is important to know about the Moscow Night Cycling Festival in 2024?

It is necessary to install a white light on the front of the bike and a red one on the back, as well as retroreflective elements. It is also recommended to wear a helmet, gloves, elbow and knee protection. It is important to check in advance that your bicycle is in good working order, install a rearview mirror, a bell and secure a water bottle on the frame.

During the festival it is necessary to ride at an average speed of the column – 14-15 km/h, to inform about rearrangement by hand signals and not to stop abruptly. Beginner cyclists should keep to the right side of the road.

It is forbidden to use the phone and other devices during the cycling festival, to drink alcohol and smoke, to carry cutting and cutting objects and glass bottles, to distribute or display advertising materials without the approval of the organizers and to use slogans, slogans and flags with poles. It is not allowed to participate on electric scooters, monocycles and other means of individual mobility (SIM). Travel on electric bicycles is allowed at a safe speed limit of no more than 15 km/h.

Traffic restrictions

For the safety of the participants of the cycling convoy some parts of Moscow roads will be blocked.

• From 20:00 it will be impossible to drive through Suvorovskaya Square. Restrictions will be lifted as the bike convoy passes.

• From 21:00 to 23:00 the restrictions will affect a section of Seleznyovskaya Street – from Dostoevsky Lane to Suvorovskaya Square. And from 21:30 to 23:59 – a section of Luzhniki Street – from Luzhnetskaya Embankment to the house 24, building 35 on Luzhniki Street.

• From 21:30 will close Samotechnaya, Sadovaya-Samotechnaya and Tverskaya streets, Tsvetnoy, Petrovsky, Strastnoy, Tverskaya, Nikitsky and Gogolevsky boulevards, Prechistenskaya, Frunzenskaya and Luzhnetskaya embankments, as well as Soimonovsky passage and Bolshoy Putinkovsky Lane. The streets will be opened to traffic as the bicycle column passes by.

• From 00:01 July 6 to the end of the event on the sites of the closures will not be allowed to park. July 6 from 08:00 to 18:30 and July 7 from 00:01 to 07:00 will be closed to traffic one lane on Suvorovskaya Square, on Frunzenskaya Embankment from Khamovnicheskaya Val Street to Andreyevsky Bridge and on Luzhnetskaya Embankment near the intersection with Andreyevsky Bridge.

From 00:01 on July 6 until the end of the event it will be impossible to park in the areas of the closures.
