Fitness in the gym: how workouts will go after the pandemic

Learned about the new conditions in the clubs from the General Director of a large network.

The capital’s fitness clubs have not worked for more than two months. Since March 21, they went into quarantine because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, customers immediately found alternatives: first – classes on the street, and when they became prohibited – online training at home. And, it would seem, everyone has already adapted and significantly saved the budget, not overpaying for visits to sports clubs. However, real gym lovers are no longer sitting still, they are ready to break into treadmills or lie down under the weights with renewed vigor. We talked to Nikolay Pryanishnikov, the general director of World Class fitness clubs chain, and found out when we should wait for the opening of gyms and whether we will be able to go to the pool and spa as before.

When will the fitness clubs open?

Currently there is no indication on this matter, but the owners hope that the clubs will be allowed to open soon. In the current situation, every day of downtime is affected. It is worth noting that modern fitness clubs, equipped in accordance with all norms, are places much safer to visit than many other public institutions.

Fitness clubs are still closed in almost all regions. World Class franchise club in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk was the first in Russia to open its doors at the end of May. Group classes there are held by appointment and with intervals between classes for disinfection and airing. In addition to Sakhalin, clubs have already been opened in Tatarstan and Kirov.

How will the gyms work after opening?

Rospotrebnadzor published an official list of recommendations for fitness clubs back on May 26. Most of them are quite logical and understandable, their fulfillment will be effective, but there are some very controversial points, which the owners plan to discuss with RPN in the coming days. A large amount of work is being done now in preparation for the opening.

Will spas, saunas, pools be available?

For swimming pools, spas and saunas, a number of rules and restrictions are also prescribed. Visiting a pool is possible provided that at least 5 square meters of water mirror area or 10 square meters of pool lane is allocated for each visitor. The data will be calculated based on the total area. In most World Class clubs there is a three-stage cleaning system: at intervals of once in 6 hours the entire volume of water in the pool is treated, including UV lamps. As for the work of spa centers, the authorities have already lifted restrictions in the Moscow region, Beauty Spa is open in clubs in Pavlovo and Zhukovka.
