Food: living and dead. What to eat to live to be 100 years old?

It’s no secret that a healthy lifestyle is at the peak of its relevance today. A lot of Instagram-bloggers create a cult of healthy eating and functional training. Every day we see in their feeds a lot of recipes that include not quite typical products: chia seeds, quinoa, chickpeas…. These ingredients are not found in every supermarket. Therefore, many people think that healthy food is too complicated and expensive. What do the authorities of the gastronomic world think about it? What foods, in their opinion, prolong life?

Jamie Oliver – a famous chef and restaurateur, has long been popularizing proper nutrition. He conducted a very interesting study: he studied the cuisine of countries with the largest number of long-livers. He paid attention to what products are often used by people in a particular country, and learned how to cook local dishes.

Japan

Average life expectancy: 87 years.

Usually, when we think of Japanese cuisine, we think: “They probably eat sushi and rolls all the time.” But that’s not quite right. The basis of Japanese cuisine is fresh food in all its variations. In addition, both in Russia and Japan love dumplings with one difference: Japanese gyoza dumplings are prepared with any filling. And standard minced meat (beef or pork), and duck, and just any vegetables. And also an obligatory condition – gyoza are cooked on steam. No hot oil or excess fat. Simple and healthy food. Maybe it’s just the spices that seem strange to you. The Japanese add ginger and soy sauce almost everywhere.

And, of course, rice. The Japanese eat it with every meal. But this does not mean that their diet is not diverse, it includes salmon, shrimp, and meat. And from vegetables – carrots, cabbage, cucumbers and tomatoes. Plus legumes.

The main drink of the Japanese is green tea. It is very tonic. And its beneficial properties have long been recognized by nutritionists and nutritionists. In general, nothing unusual.

By the way, fast food is unpopular in Japan. Like hamburgers, French fries, and certainly not shawarma. Maybe that’s why life expectancy is so high there.

Greece

Greece has been famous for its athletes and sportsmen since antiquity. They owe much of this to their food system. For example, lunch for Greeks is a ritual. A time when the whole family gathers around the table. Plus fresh fruits and vegetables are very important: tomatoes, grapes, olives. The traditional drink on the table is, of course, homemade wine. The fact that Greece exports almost no foodstuffs also affects the general picture. It turns out that everything is grown only for themselves. This means that everything is grown only for oneself, which means that it is of high quality and to one’s conscience.

Breakfast is also important for the inhabitants of this country. One of the most common is sweet potato muffins. In Russia, they are also called Greek muffins.

The ingredients are simple: sweet potatoes (yams), eggs, cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, green onions and a little flour. From them you need to make a mass, something resembling a dough, and portioned send to bake in the oven. By the way, this is another plus of this dish. Baked food is much healthier than fried food.

And also on this island are very fond of gyros – a version of our shawarma. Except that the flatbread is made of coarser grades of flour, and as a sauce in the pita there is not mayonnaise, but sour cream with fresh herbs.

At the same time, they all harmoniously complement each other and do not detract from the overall flavor. Also a special attention is paid to sauces. In Costa Rica, they are served with all dishes.

For example, casados. This is a mixture of rice, beans and various vegetables. Full-fledged dish itself is served as a side dish to meat. And those who are especially watching the figure and counting every calorie, will be enough only the first version of the recipe.

And the proximity to the sea simply obliges that in Costa Rica seafood is loved. And it really does. There is even a variation of Japanese sashimi – a variant of serving raw fish. Only in this country, red peppers, chili and lemon are a must for serving.
