What to do if you step on glass while exercising outdoors

What should you do if you step on glass during training? How to give yourself first aid?

We tell you together with the doctor.

Even if you choose the place where you exercise carefully, there is always a risk of unpleasant surprises. In public places – whether it’s a park or a sports field – there can be debris, including dangerous debris. For example, glass shards, sharp sticks and sometimes even nails. In such a case, it is important not to worry and to act calmly. We explain what and how to do.

First, give yourself first aid, and after that, be sure to go to a trauma center.

First of all, you should try to remove the splinter from the wound. Next, it should be washed and sanitized. If there is no hydrogen peroxide at hand, ordinary water will do. The main thing – it must be clean! Antibacterial wipes and gels can be used to disinfect the cut. In no case should you pour the product into the wound – it is enough to treat its edges.

If it bleeds

The place of injury should be carefully examined, assess the “scale of the disaster”. If there is bleeding, it must be stopped. To do this, the injured limb is lifted up.

To stop stronger bleeding, you need to gently press on the wound, putting a clean napkin on top. When the bleeding stops, apply a tight-fitting sterile dressing.

If the bleeding cannot be stopped, medical attention should be sought immediately.

If the glass is stuck in your leg

If you can not get the glass, it penetrated deeply, there is a feeling of numbness in the place of damage – immediately go to a trauma center.

In this case, do not try to get the shards yourself. Moreover, you should not pick, rub the wound or try to cut it. This will only drive the glass deeper into the cut.

Important! A skin injury, even if it is a small scratch, can cause infection with a dangerous disease – tetanus. If you have not had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years, you should go to the hospital right away to have a tetanus serum administered.

If you notice signs of infection (redness, festering and swelling, fever above 38 degrees) after removing the glass, you should see a doctor immediately.

Glass and injuries are not the only dangers that await fans of street training. In summer, the weather also becomes a risk factor. How to exercise in the heat, so as not to harm yourself, read in the article at the link.
