Can’t sit still: which countries to travel to on May holidays?

This year, the May holidays will be even longer: by presidential decision, the weekend will last from May 1 to 11. There will be enough time for a full-fledged trip. Why not take advantage of this opportunity and go abroad? We tell you which countries will be open by the beginning of May and what you need to do to get there.

Egypt

Whether you want to see the pyramids of Giza, stroll the streets of Cairo or visit ancient Luxor, the choice is yours. The weather is perfect in May, with temperatures cooler than in summer and the water in the Mediterranean Sea warm enough for swimming. However, you should be careful with prices: at this time they may be overpriced due to the large influx of tourists.

Since April 23, air communication with Egypt has been fully restored. Now Russian tourists can fly to Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh. Before registration for the flight, adults and children of six years and older must show a negative test for coronavirus. This must be done no earlier than 72 hours prior to departure. Upon arrival in Egypt, you will need to fill out a questionnaire with your health and contact information. If you have no symptoms of illness, you will not need to be quarantined.

Greece

May is the beginning of the swimming season in Greece. The water warms up enough, but tourists have not yet had time to fill the beaches. Therefore, May holidays can be a great reason to travel.

To travel to Greece, you will need a negative test for coronavirus, made not earlier than 72 hours before departure. Children under the age of 10 and those with a certificate of COVID-19 vaccination will not need the certificate if the last vaccination was given in the previous 14 days. In addition, a rapid coronavirus test will be required at the airport of destination. If it is negative, self-isolation will not be required.

You will also need to fill out a special “Passenger Search Form” at least one day before your arrival in the country. Upon arrival, you will be asked to show a confirmation email or a QR code created from the form.

United Arab Emirates

May marks the end of the high season for the Emirates: the heat gradually intensifies and prices drop. The beginning of the month is the perfect time to jump on the last carriage and enjoy the crowded but not yet murderously hot streets of Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah.

At the airport you will need to present a certificate of negative COVID-19 test, made not earlier than 72 hours before arrival. Adults and children over 12 years of age will then need to take a second free PCR test. Self-isolation is required until the results of the retest are received. A message with the results will come within 48 hours.

Maldives

In May, the rainy season starts in the Maldives and the weather gradually deteriorates. But at the beginning of the month you can still catch the last dry days. This is a great opportunity to go diving, fishing, spearfishing and wakeboarding.

To get to the islands, everyone, including children from one year old, will need a certificate of a negative test for coronavirus. This must be done no earlier than 96 hours before departure. Those who have undergone all stages of vaccination do not need to take the test if 14 days have passed since the last vaccine – it is enough to provide the corresponding certificate. And a day before arrival to the Maldives and departure back it is necessary to fill in a medical declaration. You will receive a QR code, which you will then show at the passport control.

Only those tourists who have symptoms of illness are sent to self-isolation.

Cuba

The last month of spring is borderline for the tourist season in Cuba. The temperature rises, but thanks to the breezes the heat is much easier to bear. In May there are cloudy days, but the sea is very clean, without jellyfish and algae. In addition, it is at this time you can catch a favorable hot tour, and tourists in hotels is much less compared to the peak dates.

To enter Cuba, you need to show a negative test for COVID-19, made not earlier than 72 hours before arrival. At the airport of arrival you will need to fill out a health questionnaire, have your temperature taken and undergo free PCR testing.
