What do Russians eat on New Year's Eve?

Giving up olivier and coldcake was not so easy.

Many people associate New Year’s Eve primarily with a festive table bursting with various delicious things. Herring under a fur coat, kolodets, a bucket of olivier, baked duck – the obligatory dishes on the New Year’s table of most Russians. However, such a variety can hardly be called correct. What are the supporters of healthy lifestyle? Some even at the festive dinner remain faithful to the diet and choose healthier products. And someone on the contrary organizes the most grandiose cheatmeal of the year.

In December 2020, the specialists of Level Kitchen – a service for the production and delivery of healthy food rations – conducted a study among their clients in Moscow and the Moscow region and found out why many people refuse to eat on New Year’s Eve.

Why do the majority of zoogeeks “snap” on New Year’s Eve?

According to the survey, more than half of the adherents of healthy eating on holidays depart from the diet. Most (14.58%) at this time go out of town, where it is impossible to order delivery of ready-made rations. That is why they have to break the diet plan. Almost the same number (14.35%) consciously take a break during New Year vacations.

Every tenth of respondents cannot imagine the main winter holiday without their favorite olivier and herring under a fur coat. And for many (9.26%) a wide feast is an integral part of the New Year, a tradition that cannot be broken. At the same time, some (8.56%) are sure that after the holidays they will immediately return to the regimen.

How do you manage not to break your diet on New Year’s Eve?

Some survey participants still do not change the right habits. Among them the majority (5.32%) cook healthy and healthy dishes even on New Year’s Eve. And for some (3.58%) this holiday is no reason to break the diet – but on other memorable dates they can afford extra.

However, not everyone voluntarily adheres to PP during New Year vacations. Someone (4.01%) believes that he will not be able to return to a healthy diet after such a gastronomic “bender”. And others (2.1%) refuse from fatty traditional dishes because of their health.

It turns out that even the most ardent supporters of a healthy lifestyle is not easy to resist holiday culinary temptations. However, there’s nothing wrong with cheatmilas – you can’t live in permanent restrictions, but sometimes you can indulge in tasty junk food.

How do you celebrate the New Year? Do you eat a lot of olivier or are you looking for healthy alternatives to traditional dishes?
