How do I know my exact weight? When should you weigh yourself?

Let’s find out together with the trainer.

Weigh more than yesterday? Don’t panic! You may be weighing yourself at the wrong time and in the wrong place. We tell you how to do it right.

It’s not the weight that matters, but the ratio of fat to muscle mass in the body.

At what time should you weigh yourself: in the morning or in the evening?

According to fitness trainer Egor Fukalov, it is best to weigh yourself in the morning, immediately after sleep. At this time, the errors are minimal, but there are nuances.

Egor: Before weighing it is important to satisfy all your physical needs – to go to the restroom. To find out the exact weight, it is better to take off your clothes, underwear can be left on. The same applies to accessories and gadgets: take off your watch, put away your phone and safely stand on the scale – it should be placed on a hard, flat surface.

To find out your exact weight, follow a few tips:

  • weight fluctuates throughout the day, so weigh yourself at the same time if possible;
  • Ideally, track your weight over several weeks and then draw conclusions;
  • use only one scale to avoid inaccuracies;
  • place the scale in the same place to get the most accurate readings;
  • make sure the scale is not empty before weighing – otherwise it may “lie”;
  • record your results or use a weight management app to track your progress.

The expert notes that you also need to consider your diet. If you reduce your carbohydrate intake, the figure on the scale will be smaller. The fact is that a carbohydrate-free diet disrupts the water balance, and already in the first days of such a diet you can lose a few kilos. This is due to the fact that 1 g of carbohydrates “holds” in the body 4 g of water. That is, when we eliminate carbohydrates, we lose water, not excess fat.

How often should you check your weight?

In general, to berate yourself for weighing more than yesterday is a classic of the genre. But the main thing is not weight, but the ratio of fat and muscle mass in the body, says fitness expert Egor Fukalov. After all, with the same weight, one and the same person can look completely different both aesthetically and in terms of health.

Weigh yourself every day and preferably on an empty stomach – so it will be easier to adjust nutrition and further training program. You should not get on the scale at the end of the day: swelling and a full stomach can spoil the results. Set the scale on a perfectly flat surface, otherwise the figure will be inaccurate.
