Where to go on vacation in the fall of 2023?

Audio version:

Almost all places won’t require a visa, unless you plan to stay more than a month.

“You can complain all you want about the “too fast summer”, but you can just take it and extend it without the hassle of visas and airfare. I’ve gathered a few countries where the warm season will not end soon – and in some places it will never end.

Philippines

Visa: not required for up to 30 days

High season in the Philippines starts closer to the end of fall, but from mid-October you can plan a beach vacation in Boracay, and parties in Cebu, and diving off the island of Palawan, the underwater world of which was admired by Jacques-Yves Cousteau himself. At the same time, there are no crowds of tourists at this time of year, and the temperature rarely exceeds a comfortable +28°C.

Autumn is also perfect for excursion acquaintance with the archipelago. To see the shore where Magellan’s first circumnavigation in the history of mankind ended, to look into the beautiful colonial basilica of Santo Niño, to wander through the historical quarter of Intramuros and to take a ride on the legendary jeepneys in Manila – if you give in to temptation to stay on the beach at the peak of the season, you risk missing all this. And while the archipelago is just ‘waking up’ and recovering from the rains, it’s the best time to get to know it better.

Morocco

Visa: not required for up to 90 days

With the beginning of October in Morocco the heat subsides and the velvet season begins. This means that you can walk the streets of Chaffaouen, or Chavin, the cinematic “blue city” at the junction of the Rif Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, not for a modest couple of hours, but for a whole day, getting lost in the narrow alleys of indigo color.

From there, go to Volubilis, the ancient “fortress of the pharaohs” with its monumental triumphal arch, forum and capitol. Or devote time to Tangier, which inspired The Rolling Stones and Burroughs. Finally, watch the sunset at the junction of Europe and Africa, at the Hercules Caves, where the entrance is reminiscent of the African continent. Or sit for ages at the ancient lighthouse of Cape Spartel, in absolutely no hurry.

Cuba

Visa: not required for up to 90 days

In the fall, thousands of travelers flock to Liberty Island to enjoy the white-sand beaches of Varadero, dive into the waters of the Caribbean Sea and indulge in long-awaited idleness in Cayo Largo and Cayo Coco. After spending a couple of days like this, most of them remember that they are in one of the most interesting regions of the planet, and move to Havana – to get acquainted with the colonial heritage and rich revolutionary history, and also – with delight to recognize in the rows of cars collectible American “fords” and understandable to every Russian “fives” and “kopecks”. And, of course, it is impossible not to visit Hemingway’s house: in a small cozy house far from the bustle the writer spent the last years of his life, leaving behind a rich literary heritage.

Goa, India

Visa: electronic, can be done remotely

If the only thing stopping you from traveling to India is the fact that the country has recently overtaken even China in terms of population and moved to the first place in the world, take a ticket to Goa in October. At this time it is unusually quiet and crowded, and nature shakes off the last drops of the rainy season and generously bestows travelers with sunshine. Otherwise it is the same legendary Goa – a little more “Europeanized” and comfortable in the north, a little more authentic and contrasting – in the south, with yoga and Ayurveda, an abundance of cheap exotic fruits and seafood and cows walking along the tide line.

Brazil

Visa: not required for up to 90 days

October and November in the Southern Hemisphere is the most fertile time to travel to national parks and discover the amazing nature of the Amazon. You can start in Cataratas Park, below the Iguazu Falls, then spend the night in a floating house in the jungle at the confluence of the Solimões and Rio Negro rivers, and then spend a few days in the rainforest on Ilha Grande Island. When it’s time to return to civilization, the legendary beaches of Rio, Ipanema and Copacabana will come to your aid. And the final point of the trip is traditionally set on the observation deck at the statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado Mountain, which is absolutely deservedly considered one of the modern wonders of the world.
