The experiment brought Croatian blogger Ivona Pavicic to unexpected but pleasant results.

Good nutrition has many principles, and one of them is that it is good to start each day with a hearty and balanced breakfast. The foods we eat in the morning should provide the body with slow carbohydrates. They are the best to energize us in the first half of the day, and after their consumption we do not feel hungry for a long time.

A popular and yet healthy breakfast dish is oatmeal, familiar from childhood. It contains the right carbohydrates, many essential micronutrients – iron, zinc, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, thiamine – and contains about 20 percent of the daily value of protein and fiber in one cooked portion. Ivona Pavicic, a blogger from Croatia, decided to conduct an experiment and eat only oatmeal for breakfast. We tell you what result the girl came to after two months.

Oatmeal helps to get rid of cravings for sweets

Surely many of you have heard that when you eat sweets, there is a short-term burst of energy and mood increases. This is due to increased insulin production. Because of the short-lived effect, people get hooked on sweets and rush for a new dose. Before the experiment, Ivona was also a fan of desserts: she simply could not imagine her day without products containing sugar.

When the girl decided to change her eating habits, the main requirements for breakfast were that it should be healthy, beautiful and at least a little sweet. The blogger’s choice fell on oatmeal porridge. Slow carbohydrates contained in oats not only saturate the body, but also regulate blood sugar levels in the right way without sudden spikes and drops. After two months of healthy breakfasts, Pavicich stopped abusing sweets.

Homemade porridge is better than store-bought porridge

After Iwona decided on the main morning meal, there was one more unresolved question: to cook homemade porridge or to brew store-bought porridge? Of course, the first option takes more time, and groats from the store need only pour boiling water. Despite this, the girl chose a homemade dish. In natural oatmeal, she decided not to add refined sugar and replace it with berries, fruits and cinnamon. Fast food contains sugar from the beginning. Therefore, Pavicich resorted to it only at times when she needed to save time.

Recipe for a delicious and healthy breakfast

In case you also want to repeat the experience of Iwona Pavicic and include oatmeal in your diet, the girl shared a recipe for a delicious breakfast.

Ingredients:

  • mixture of water and milk (2.8% fat content) – 350 ml;
  • oat groats – 3 tablespoons;
  • chia seeds – 1 teaspoon;
  • flax seeds – 2 teaspoons;
  • honey – 1 teaspoon
  • cinnamon;
  • fresh, frozen or dried fruits and berries;
  • pinch of salt.

Preparation:

Add a pinch of salt and oatmeal to a boiling mixture of water and milk. Keep on the heat for about a minute, until the porridge softens. You can sweeten with honey if desired. Next, add the flax seeds and chia seeds. Finally, sprinkle with cinnamon and/or fruit, berries to taste.

The girl’s favorite addition was homemade strawberries from the garden, but whatever fruit you choose, you can’t go wrong. Most importantly, pay proper attention to breakfast and don’t forget to eat right throughout the day.
