How does the cold season affect the desire to move? Why is it easier to gain excess weight in winter?

Running in winter is much harder than in summer. The road is slippery from ice, the air is scalding cold in the lungs, it’s dark outside in the morning and evening, and we are usually at work during the day. That’s okay, it’s worth putting up with the inconvenience to achieve a beautiful figure. Running in the cold is not as scary as it seems, and is generally effective for weight loss. But winter jogging is a very capricious activity option. With the right approach, you can burn enough calories, and if you do not know all the subtleties, the training may not bring the desired result.

What time of year is the worst time to lose weight?

In the cold seasons – winter and fall – it is especially hard to lose weight for residents of temperate latitudes. There are pronounced all four seasons. Therefore, after a hot summer, the body begins to prepare for the cold winter. It stores subcutaneous fat, makes us more sluggish. These biological processes have been inherited from our distant ancestors, for whom each winter was a real test. Millennia have passed, we already easily survive any weather conditions, but our body continues to reorganize and protect us from the cold.

In addition, the subcutaneous fat layer strengthens immunity, because many immune cells are contained in it. A small weight gain can also be associated with this feature. All this makes winter the most difficult season for thinners.

What is the right way to run in winter to lose weight?

Of course, winter jogging is effective for weight loss. However, don’t think that if you decide to lose a couple pounds today and run out for a workout, it will be easy for you. It won’t. If you haven’t run at all before, it’s not easy to start exercising in the cold – it will be very hard to leave the house in the dark and cold, and the winter air will feel unaccustomedly heavy and disrupt your breathing. Ideally, you should start regular jogging in more favorable weather conditions, such as summer, and just keep it up in the winter.

But most researchers agree that in the cold it is better not to train too intensively if you are interested in weight loss. The fact is that intensive training keeps a person warm in winter, so additional processes that burn energy are not triggered. And this means that you will not get the effect for weight loss from the low temperatures outside.

If your goal is to burn off extra pounds, give preference to a light jog or a long walk. From them in the cold the effect will be greater. But, for example, in a fitness club you can sweat to your heart’s content: there the temperature will be much more favorable for weight loss during intensive training.

In the end, we come to the classic conclusion: the training process has a lot of subtleties. And if you know about them, any sports activity in every season will bring you the desired result.
