Which is more effective: a half hour of sex or a workout?

Can sex replace a workout? How many calories are spent during sex?

Says fitness trainer, expert methodologist.

Comparing the intensity of sex (regardless of intensity and duration) with workouts occupies the minds of many fans of both fitness and sex. Many people wonder: can sex replace workouts?

It is important not to try to avoid fitness activity through lovemaking, otherwise there is a risk of turning the joint pastime into a competition.

Studies of foreign scientists say that during sexual activity is spent up to 100-150 kcal maximum. But the work took into account pure physical activity for 25-30 minutes. In fact, energy during sexual intercourse is spent much more, and such a “workout” consists of the same parts as the usual fitness exercise. Yes and “effectiveness” will depend on each specific case.

Also, any sexual position is a coordinated functional work (uncoordinated spends, by the way, more energy). In addition to the inclusion of the cardiorespiratory system, all the muscles of the body are involved – provide complex work. And sometimes the load on individual muscle groups is higher than strength work on exercise machines, because here, among other things, it is necessary to keep balance. And the acceleration to the climax is a peak energy expenditure (especially when one partner holds the weight of the other).

The main part is different for everyone, and everyone is used to it or tends to spend it in his own way. If you want to prolong the act, of course, regular fitness training will give an increase in stamina and resistance.

So which is more effective: a half-hour workout or intercourse? Studies have shown that on average, men spend 126 kcal during 30 minutes of sex, while women spend 93 kcal. While a moderate intensity workout burns 276 kcal in men and 213 kcal in women. So if we judge by dry figures, classical fitness is still more energy-consuming.

However, when having sex, it is better to think about the condition and attitude towards your partner, not about calories and replacing a missed workout. Because a one-time attempt to replace one thing with another can be a fun addition to the communication, and further will kill the aspect of psychological relaxation and pleasure. It is better to compete in sex not in calories spent, but in who is more pleasant to be in this interaction.
