Eco-rest in nature, away from civilization – something that residents of big cities need at least once a year. It is also one of the long-standing trends in domestic tourism. And if looking at the map of Russia you feel an irresistible desire to go somewhere in the Siberian taiga or to the Pacific Ocean, we recommend you to take a closer look at the locations below. Only a few people have heard of them, but you will have a million impressions.

After visiting these places you will rethink your attitude to traveling.
To catch the vibe of a particular region, it’s best to visit several locations at once. Those places, which we talk about in the material, are a kind of “base”, from where you should start your journey and where it will be great to stay. From there, you usually organize excursions to the surrounding areas, where there are spectacular locations (but there, as a rule, you can no longer stop there).
If you like speedboat tours, read in this article where you can go.
Paratunka, Kamchatka Territory
Traveling in Kamchatka in one way or another carries the prefix “eco”: most routes here are laid through wild forests, near active volcanoes or through untouched alpine meadows. And to experience the majesty of pristine nature in full, go on expeditions to the peninsula is best from Paratunka – a small village 70 km from Petropavlovsk.
Paratunka is famous for its geothermal springs, flowing from the bowels of the earth. In addition to the obvious recreational attraction, they play and quite utilitarian role: provide the village with hot water without CHP. So you won’t have to interrupt “for civilization” between trips: the effect of immersion into the nature of Kamchatka will be complete and permanent.
Gunib, Dagestan
Avar aul Gunib is known first of all as the place where the fierce Caucasian war was put to an end. But without detracting from the historical significance of the village, travelers are looking for in Gunib not only artifacts of Shamil’s era. They are interested in the very opportunity to spend a few days in the high-mountainous village, spend amazing hours in the local nature park or walk along one of the surrounding trekking routes with a guide.
Thinned air, aromas of pine needles and mountain herbs, fantastic views – all this helps to reboot in a few days and return to the metropolis with new strength and new impressions.
Yailu, Altai Republic
Yailyu or “summer parking lot” is a small Altai village located in the warmest and stunningly attractive point of Siberia – in the northwest of Lake Teletskoye, on the territory of the Altai State Nature Reserve. The nature protection status allowed actually preserving the virgin beauty of these places, and the poor road infrastructure increased the effect: only a few people get to Yailu from the “big land”. But those who get there are rewarded in full. When you sit on the shore of Lake Teletskoye with a view of the Altai mountains, next to a fallen pine tree, which continues to grow despite everything, you feel the true majesty of nature and how easily and subtly it dominates over man.
Astashovo, Kostroma piirkond
In the forests of the Kostroma province, in its most remote corner, hides from prying eyes the Astashovo Forest Terem – a unique example of how enthusiasts can revive and actualize rare examples of carved wooden architecture. Carefully restored and turned into a hotel, it breaks the stereotype that you can’t find untouched nature in the European part of Russia – but no, there it is, just 500 kilometers north of the capital! Nevertheless, it is better to book three or four days instead of a weekend for a visit to the castle: this is the only way to have a full-fledged rest – in a quiet and measured way, walking in the forests, riding dog sleds or sailing on a boat on a chamber lake.
