The inhabitants of Russia are very fond of sport in all its manifestations: from watching soccer matches in the company of friends to hard training in fitness clubs. Our country hosts a huge number of different sports competitions, where athletes from all over the world come to show themselves. To provide Russian athletes and foreign guests with maximum comfort, architects work tirelessly to create sports facilities. They do not forget about those who just want to keep in shape, in addition to fitness clubs, many large cities have street vorkout platforms and organized running tracks.

The most sporty cities are usually those that have hosted major sporting events. And it’s not just the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In some places and before that, a lot of large-scale and interesting things took place.
Krasnodar
Soccer matches are often held in the city, because there is a large stadium “Krasnodar”. In 2017, a park with the same name was laid out around it, and this place became even more sporty. The architects have created a real city for the most active: there is a climbing wall, rope park, street basketball and skateboarding courts. And anyone can also come to this park for tennis or badminton training.
But that’s not all. In Krasnodar there is a complex “City of Sports” with a dozen of training halls, a basketball court and a hockey palace. And also in the city there is a sailing club for those who have long dreamed of learning to ride a yacht.
Such an abundance of sports facilities simply can not help but motivate the locals to lead an active lifestyle.
Moskva
The leader in the number of sports arenas. But, in addition to the largest stadiums like “Luzhniki” and “Otkritie Arena”, where soccer matches are held, the city has something to please fans of an active lifestyle.
Fitness clubs, running tracks, bike rentals, skateparks, swimming pools – whatever your heart desires. In summer, Muscovites do yoga in parks and run along embankments. And for those who like to set records in running, there are always various competitions. For example, athletes can run a marathon in the heart of the capital.
In winter, Moscow parks pour ice on the paths (for example, in Sokolniki), and residents have the opportunity to skate. And the skating rink on Red Square is the main love of many tourists and citizens.
Rostov-on-Don
South of Moscow is Rostov-on-Don, where the weather is a little warmer than in the capital. There are many sports grounds and stadiums here. Locals love soccer, volleyball, table tennis, sailing and martial arts. And there is also the Sport-Don Sports Center, one of the largest sports facilities in the South of Russia.
Kazan
The city often hosts hockey, basketball and sambo competitions. The locals lead an active lifestyle and engage in running, hockey and skiing. The city has countless sports grounds and 29 sports schools.
In 2013, the Summer Universiade was held here. Several new facilities were built in the city for it:
- Kazan Arena soccer stadium.
- Aquatics Palace.
- Tennis Academy.
- Ak Bars Wrestling Palace.
- St. Petersburg Volleyball Center.
- Boxing and table tennis center.
- Gymnastics Center.
- Center for rowing sports on Lake Sredny Kaban.
These facilities are used for their intended purpose to this day and, of course, have influenced the level of sports culture of the residents. In addition, Kazan has a lot of sports playgrounds (with rings, exercise machines and other equipment). Tourists can often catch international sports competitions in the city. In 2021 the European Swimming Championships were held here, and in 2024 the European Aquatics Championships will be held here. Kazan is one of the few cities in Russia where sports facilities are fully utilized, including for world-scale tournaments.
Saransk
World Cup matches were held here, and the “Mordovia Arena” stadium was built for it. Also, according to statistics, Saransk is among the five cities with the most sports schools in Russia. The city as a whole often hosts major sporting events for young people. For example, this summer the V Summer Spartakiade of Russian Youth was held here.
