According to some celebrities, one effective way to get rid of excess weight is the Sirtfood Diet. It was developed by British nutritionists and is currently very popular. For example, singer Adele lost 20 kilograms on this approach, and British socialite Pippa Middleton brought her figure to the ideal before her wedding.
Of course, to lose weight on a sirtfood diet, you need to adhere to strict rules, especially in the first phase. We understand how this method helps to shed extra pounds, blunting the feeling of hunger, and whether it has disadvantages. Nutriciologist, nutritionist Anna Berseneva helps us with this.
Anti-ageing effect, increased energy and lack of hunger feeling
Sirtfood was developed not so much as a diet for weight loss, but as an effective anti-ageing program that works in a short time. It was originally recommended for soccer players and rowers. The program helped increase body performance, helped produce more energy, resist stress and slow down the aging process. A little later, we learned about its amazing ability to reduce weight and curb hunger.
Anna: Essentially, there is no process of blunting the feeling of hunger. But, importantly, the sirtuin group enzymes are really effective in helping to counteract stress and help strengthen the nervous system. Thus, we discreetly remove the main provocative factors of eating disorders, in particular compulsive overeating.

Sirtuins are a type of protein that protects cells from cell death or inflammation. They can also boost your metabolism, regulate appetite, increase muscle tone and burn fat.
What foods are included in the sirtfood diet?
The Sirtfood diet includes foods rich in resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant that belongs to a class of cellular enzymes called sirtuins. These proteins resist stress, regulate the aging process, accelerate metabolism, burn fat and regenerate body cells. The creators of the diet even called them the genes of longevity and slimness.
It is important to realize that sirtuins are not proteins that we are used to consuming. After all, they cannot simply be eaten. It is possible to trigger the mechanism of sirtuins formation only thanks to some products rich in polyphenols. Among them:
- buckwheat groats;
- capers;
- oliiviõli;
- coffee and green tea;
- garlic, red onion, parsley and arugula;
- kale (curly kale, aka grünkohl);
- chicory;
- soybeans;
- shrimp;
- dark-colored berries (black currants, cherries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries) and strawberries;
- turmeric;
- citrus fruits;
- dark chocolate and dates;
- red wine (especially Pinot Noir).
Anna: Incorrect consumption of some products from the list can lead to negative consequences.
Special attention should be paid to dates and grapes. Apples and berries should also be limited in case of pancreatic disorders. An apple included in a green juice, even despite the large amount of fiber (kale, parsley), can greatly raise blood sugar levels. This will negatively affect your figure and your overall health.
Another serious point is soy. When choosing such products, especially soy sauce, it is important to consider the presence of sugar in their composition. Daily consumption of soy can provoke hormonal and endocrine disorders due to the high content of phytoestrogens. This is particularly true for men, for whom I would recommend limiting soy products to 2-3 times per week.
From the fourth to the seventh day
During this period, the portion of green juice decreases – only two glasses per day. The frequency of meals is also increased: you can eat twice a day. The diet, of course, should still consist of sirtfoods. Daily calorie intake already reaches 1500 kcal.
The second phase of the diet
You can exhale, it is more pleasant. Now you should drink one serving of green juice a day and eat three times a day with foods that are most rich in sirtfoods. You can eat whole grain bread and even drink red wine. Of course, in moderation. If possible, it is better to exclude red meat from the diet. The second phase can last as long as you like: it consolidates the result.
