Winter isn’t just about red cheeks, frozen faces and icy fingers. It is a great time for lovers of outdoor activities. You can endlessly recharge with bright emotions and search for various adventures. If you are bored with typical winter activities, we suggest you to pay attention to nine new types of activities. You will definitely not be left without impressions!

Turbosanski

These are inflatable sleds for speeding down slopes in a horizontal position. Also known as an airboard or snowboard. The top of the sled is equipped with two handles. They are held by lying on the stomach with the head forward. On the underside there is a reinforced rubber layer with longitudinal grooves. When folded, the sled can be safely transported in a backpack. They weigh only about three kilograms.

Aeroboard is easily controlled by shifting the body weight to the right side. Experienced athletes can accelerate up to 100 km/h. Braking occurs with a 90-degree turn. Turbosanks are suitable for riding on tracks of any complexity. Even in the company of snowboarders and skiers. Do not forget about the equipment. When riding, you need a sports helmet and protection for knees and elbows.

Winter windsurfing

An extreme sport that combines elements of windsurfing and snowboarding. The main equipment is a special board with a sail and a snowboard. Windboarding allows you to ride at high speed and perform radical maneuvers, as well as many freestyle tricks. To do this, the rider must learn how to balance properly, control the sail and use the wind in his favor.

Snowshoes

The first snowshoes had a hardwood frame with rawhide grids. Modern models are made of lightweight metals, plastic and synthetic materials. In the past, they served as an indispensable means of transportation in deep snow. Especially for hunters.

Today, there are three models designed for different types of outdoor activities:

  • aerobic (lightweight and compact);
  • recreational (for walking short distances);
  • mountaineering (for serious climbing and long hikes).

The large support area evenly distributes the weight of the person. Adjustable fasteners are securely fixed to the appropriate winter footwear. For safety, it is recommended to take trekking poles. They will help to keep the balance. In heavy snow, it is best to use gaiters and special boot covers.

Snowskoot

The snowskoot combines a scooter and a snowboard. It has intuitive controls, which makes it accessible for beginners, but the pros won’t get bored either. Experienced riders can maneuver down slopes, make dynamic descents and perform complex tricks.

The athlete can control the speed by turning the handlebars and shifting his weight. In this way, the edges of the skis follow a smooth line. To slow down and stop, it is enough to extend one leg. There are no bindings on the snow scooter, so you can ski in hiking boots.

Heli-skiing

Heli-skiing is a type of freeride where a helicopter takes participants to remote slopes. The entertainment is not cheap, but will definitely give a lot of emotions to fans of extreme sports. Athletes can enjoy the opportunity to explore untouched and inaccessible areas.

It is important to realize that heli-skiing poses more dangers than regular skiing. The main concern is a possible avalanche. Guides are required to provide all necessary information to the group and teach safety rules. Tour participants should be equipped with avalanche beacons, shovels and probes. More modern equipment is the airbag. It is activated manually when caught in an avalanche.

Catskimming

The idea is almost the same as heli-skiing – to get participants to untouched hills. But here the transportation is provided by tractors. They are capable of overcoming difficult routes in snowy terrain.

Catskiing has a couple of advantages over heli-skiing. First, it is cheaper. Second, you can get up the slope in almost any weather. Participants gather at a campground or ski resort where they prepare for the adventure. Then the company gets to the top in warm and comfortable conditions. After – rolls down the untouched slopes.

Snowkiting

This is an exciting type of active vacation, which uses a kite and a snowboard. Sometimes the latter is replaced by skis or skates. The kite is attached to the rider with special cords. The wind creates a pull, and a person glides on the snow. A variety of shapes and sizes of kites allows you to choose the right equipment depending on weather conditions and level of training.

Snowskate

A hybrid of a skateboard and snowboard is designed primarily for performing tricks in the snow. Instead of a long board, a short and stiff board is used. It allows for easy rolling and maneuvering. There are four main types of snowboards available today.

1. Single Deck. Usually made of laminated wood with a plastic bottom or solid plastic. Grooves (most often seven or five) are present in the bottom. They are ideal for riding in parks and urban areas, but are also suitable for downhill skiing.

2. Bideck. The ski (sabdeck) is attached to the upper deck (topdeck). Different models are designed for different styles of skiing: longer ones are suitable for mountains and shorter ones for extreme tricks.

3. 4×4. Here skis are used instead of wheels on a longboard. These boards are more stable than regular snowboards, but less maneuverable and more demanding to the condition of the slope. The skiing technique is the same as on a longboard.

4. Powderskate. Usually longer and have a large surface area designed for riding on deep snow. There are two varieties. One is designed for snow only and is similar to surfing techniques. The other is more versatile and can be used on different surfaces.

Broomball

This is a dynamic team game on ice, similar to hockey, floorball and soccer at the same time. A broomstick is used instead of a stick, the puck is replaced by a ball, and skates are rubber-soled shoes. The goal is to throw the ball into the goal of the opposing team. The game is quite dynamic. Participants often use brooms to intercept the ball, block shots and create strategic passes. Since players do not wear skates, broomball has its own unique style and tactics.
