“If the tourist triangle Samarkand – Bukhara – Tashkent is considered “golden”, then the beaches and lake resorts of Uzbekistan are more suitable for the epithet “silver”. Glittering in the southern sun, this effect of precious metal is created by sea salt, which is abundant on the beaches of Central Asia. I’ll tell you where Uzbekistan’s recreational and natural treasures are concentrated below.

Lake Sudochie

Sudochie was once a major fishing center, a real full-flowing lake in the middle of the Central Asian desert. But the shoaling of the Aral Sea changed its purpose: commercial fish left here and birds – flamingos, pelicans, herons, golden eagles and more than two hundred species of birds – came.

Remote from settlements and located on the migration path of migratory birds, Sudochie has become a local center of “wild” tourism and birdwatching. You can’t count on amenities and entertainment here, but you can count on incredible views, bird markets and complete solitude.

“Urungach Jade Lakes

The system of two lakes of noble jade color appeared in the Ugam-Chatkal National Park due to the collapse of rocks that formed a natural dam. Water in them, in addition to the amazing color, pleases with crystal clarity and transparency – all thanks to natural sand and gravel filters.

However, the rather modest water temperature can deter travelers from bathing. Which does not cancel the possibility to rest comfortably on the picturesque shores of the lakes with a tent, enjoying luxurious mountain panoramas from the first row.

Charvak Reservoir

Behind the succinct toponym Charvak there are both a hydroelectric power station and a settlement, but the main thing is a nearby reservoir with numerous resorts, recreation centers and sanatoriums. All this is on the spurs of the western Tien Shan, along which there are trekking routes and eco-trails.

Rest on Charvak can’t be called lazy, but the request for reset and renewal it removes on hurrah – it is enough to spend a couple of days in the fresh mountain air surrounded by peaceful waterfalls, stone cliffs and snowy peaks.

Aral Sea

The Aral Sea, once one of the most impressive bodies of water in Central Asia, is now considered more of a victim of a massive environmental disaster and a living reminder that nature’s resources are not unlimited.

Nevertheless, a vacation on the Aral Sea can be a truly unique experience. It combines salt baths, jeep safaris in the Kyzylkum and Aralkum deserts and on the Ustyurt plateau, and absolutely amazing pictures – for example, a graveyard of ships. The landscape of the Aral Sea will remain in its current form for a very short time – the plan is to plant these areas with forests by 2030. So fans of informal tourism should hurry up.

Badai-Tugai Reserve

If you get bored with desert landscapes during the trip, you should visit Badai-Tugai Reserve. After kilometers of lifeless horizons, it appears as a blooming eastern oasis in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya. Created to preserve the population of Bukhara deer, the reserve is also valued by people – not only tourists, but also locals who come here for picnics and photo shoots. Badai-Tugai is especially impressive in the “golden” hour: nature itself has created idyllic conditions for meeting sunsets here.
