When choosing where to spend their summer vacation, most travelers will probably prefer the sea and the beach, and think about the mountains in the last place. It so happens that the peaks and slopes are associated exclusively with New Year holidays – and for nothing! Summer in the mountains blossoms with poppy fields, sparkles with snow caps and descends with noisy waterfalls and full-flowing rivers from high peaks. I have collected and share with you the most interesting destinations for a summer vacation in the mountains. After all, “there can be only mountains better than the mountains you have not been to yet”.

Dagestan

Mountainous Dagestan is the unique nature of the Caucasus, original culture and amazing cuisine. You should start your acquaintance with the region with a walk along the Sulak Canyon, where, not fully realizing what you have seen, you can spend hours looking down at soaring eagles.

From the canyon go straight to the mysterious Gamsutl, left many years ago, but carefully preserving ancient artifacts and traces of bygone eras. And lastly stop by the Tlyaratinsky State Nature Reserve to experience the 2.5 km altitude difference and enjoy the panorama of the purest high-mountain lakes.

Krasnaya Polyana, Krasnodar Region

Sochi’s Krasnaya Polyana is a kind of compromise for those who are drawn to both the mountains and the sea. One of the most modern all-season mountain resorts in Russia, Krasnaya Polyana offers tourists trekking routes, rafting and paragliding, fishing and quad bikes, and for an exquisite dessert – panoramic restaurants, author’s spa and wellness programs and a rich concert and festival life. All this is an hour’s drive from the beaches of the Black Sea Imereti resort with all the attributes of a long-awaited summer vacation.

Mountain Altai

The Altai Mountains are remarkably similar to the Alps: the same diverse herbage, endless emerald meadows and snow-white caps headed by Belukha. But, unlike the Alps, the nature here is almost untouched by man, and some locations will have to be reached by road – not everything is obvious with roads. And this “wildness” is the special value of Altai: water in Multinskiye lakes seems clearer, and the flavor of mountain herbs is more intense and attractive.

Kamtšatka

The volcanoes of Kamchatka may not boast impressive records of height, but in everything that concerns uniqueness and originality, will give a head start to many mountain ranges. The most accessible of them are located almost within the city limits, and for the sake of entertainment on them even make mass ascents.

To others you will have to drive a long way by “loaf” or fly at all – among them, for example, are the legends of the Valley of Geysers. After such intense and emotional travels you want only one thing – to relax in natural therms. There is nothing wrong with them in Kamchatka, as well as with volcanoes.

Lena Pillars, Yakutia

Formally, of course, the Lena Pillars are not mountains, but a series of rocks from 40 to 100 meters high, stretching for 40 km along the right bank of the Lena River. But from the water, from the board of a pleasure boat, this rocky ridge seems to be an impregnable monolith. Everything changes at sunset: the tops of the rocks take the outlines of a fairy-tale castle, illuminated by the departing sun. The pillars glow red, and in this glow you want to make and fulfill wishes one by one.
