A lot is known about the useful properties of ginger. It is added to a variety of dishes and drinks: in meat and baked goods, in coffee and tea. It is believed that this spice improves immunity, helps to fight colds and even with excess weight. But is it really so? And how often can you eat ginger?

Fresh ginger contains a large number of useful minerals, vitamins, essential oils, essential amino acids. Almost all of them are also preserved in ginger powder.

Does ginger help to lose weight?

Thanks to fiber and pectin substances in the composition of ginger helps the digestive system. It stimulates the secretion of the digestive glands of the stomach, favorably affecting the microflora and intestinal function. In this case, you are less likely to suffer from gas, toxins are eliminated faster, and metabolism is accelerated.

It is believed that a special substance in the composition of ginger (alkaloid gingerol-6) contributes to weight loss. It increases the body’s heat production and speeds up metabolism. In addition, it prevents the accumulation of fatty tissues.

Lydia: Experts agree that ginger is useful for overweight people because it has a positive effect on metabolism. It can indeed be one of the factors affecting weight change, but the root vegetable itself does not have the magical ability to “burn” extra pounds. The result can be achieved only by using ginger on the background of a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise.

How useful is ginger and how much of it can be eaten?

Ginger has the most potassium, which is useful for those who take diuretics. At this time, along with fluid, the body loses a lot of potassium, and ginger helps to restore its level. Also in tandem with phosphorus, potassium supplies oxygen to the brain, and together with calcium – controls neuromuscular activity. In combination with iodine and alkaline bases, which are rich in ginger, potassium has a positive effect on the body for cardiovascular and thyroid diseases.

In addition to potassium, ginger is rich in magnesium, essential for the functioning of the nervous system, as well as in the synthesis of proteins and the removal of toxic elements from the body. Moreover, magnesium has a beneficial effect on the state of a person after a heart attack and alleviates the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome in women.

The high calcium content in ginger makes it especially useful for adult women (after the onset of menopause) and elderly people. It helps maintain normal blood pressure, ensures blood clotting, regulates enzyme function. Its sufficient presence in the body helps prevent arrhythmias and muscle cramps.

This spicy root also fights such common problems as cholesterol accumulation and high blood sugar. It strengthens blood vessels and prevents blood clots from forming.

Ginger root contains a lot of vitamin C and B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B9), which support the immune system. Therefore, ginger is recommended to eat in colds.

In some cases, it is better to give up the spice altogether:

  • while taking sugar-lowering drugs and blood thinners, because ginger itself reduces the blood’s ability to clot;
  • in inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. gastritis);
  • during exacerbation of diseases of the heart, gallbladder, liver;
  • with damage to mucous membranes and bleeding;
  • when taking certain anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, analgin, ibuprofen, etc.);
  • when the temperature is too high;
  • during pregnancy (second and third trimesters);
  • children under three years of age.
