What is Blokecore style and how do you combine sporty jersey shirts and regular clothes?

The intersection of soccer and fashion happened quite a long time ago, but this trend still hasn’t lost its relevance. On the contrary, it becomes more and more popular every year. Famous brands create thematic soccer collections, and people all over the world combine soccer jerseys and classic things in their style. More recently, this style has been called blokecore and has started to appear in the collections of popular brands.

This stylistic technique has been popular for several years. People now have a special reverence for vintage, and this love is expressed in wearing soccer jerseys, polo shirts and longsleeves with the names of soccer teams, and most importantly, with history, in everyday life. But the paraphernalia doesn’t necessarily have to be vintage, the main thing is that the uniforms look aesthetically pleasing. In simple words, it is a “sports-chic” style that combines elements of soccer paraphernalia with ordinary, classic things. High fashion brands have helped this trend to take off by creating entire collections dedicated to soccer uniforms.

Why is blokecore so popular?

If you think blokecore is a new trend, you are wrong. Try to tell it to English fans, who have been going to stadiums in similar images for decades. It’s just that now this trend has gained extra popularity thanks to the internet.

The younger generation of soccer fans saw this style as an opportunity to stand out from the crowd. It is especially nice to go out in the street in the jersey of your favorite team, and even nicer if it is more than 10 years old, and if the image is well matched to it, it is a success. A typical blokecore look: jersey, jeans or classic pants, and adidas Sambas on the feet.

In recent years, athletes have been using pink more and more often in their closet. How and when this shade became popular, told in the previous material.

Blokecore owes a lot to the world-famous brands that have made a lot of noise in the world of soccer fashion over the past few years. Among them: Balenciaga, Off-White, and Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy.

Balenciaga

The Spanish fashion giant twice showed the world its vision of soccer paraphernalia. Under the name of this brand were released several complete sets of uniforms in different colors, including boots, which were in particular demand.

And recently Balenciaga teamed up with adidas and made another sports collection, in which there is a jersey, painfully familiar to Liverpool fans. It looks like the Merseysiders’ 2009 jersey from afar.

Off-White

Virgil Abloh’s brand was one of the first to draw public attention to the combination of soccer and high fashion. The collection included jerseys with very unusual and memorable designs, gaiters, goalkeeper gloves, balls and much more.

The model for the presentation of the collection was a famous English footballer, playing for Manchester United, Marcus Rashford.

Gosha Rubchinskiy

It is especially nice to see a compatriot in such a top. Gosha Rubchinskiy is a Russian designer known far beyond the borders of Russia. In the distant 2018 on the eve of the World Cup in Russia, Rubchinskiy amazed everyone with his new collection, created in collaboration with adidas and dedicated to all people who love soccer.

On the T-shirts are written the names of 11 cities where the matches of the tournament were to be held. The collection turned out to be minimalistic, in a very recognizable style of Gosha Rubchinskiy. It also included a soccer ball, sweatshirts with various prints and boots.

Blokecore in 2022

This year the world of fashion and the world of soccer have become as close as possible, and blokecore has become a leading trend. Designers are inspired by it to create sports uniforms and their presentations, and celebrities go out in similar looks.

Hector Bellerin

It’s no surprise that Hector ended up on this list because he knows how to dress well, it’s hard to argue with that. In many of the photos on his social media accounts, he appears in classic pants or jeans, sneakers and retro jerseys of various teams. The style itself seems to have been invented for this soccer player.

Bellerin is a regular guest of fashion weeks, where he is constantly caught in the camera lenses. The Spanish footballer even managed to dislodge David Beckham from the fashion pedestal. More about the athlete wrote in the material.

Course for retro

Many soccer clubs have chosen to rethink their heritage retro style, which fits perfectly into blokecore: “Venice”, “Milan”, “Betis” and others presented their uniforms in this style.

Blokecore comes at a time when soccer is experiencing a moment of fusion with pop culture. It’s a UK-only phenomenon, but many Americans and younger generations around the world have already picked up on it.
