What is dangerous post-New Year’s syndrome and how to avoid the consequences of the holiday? A psychologist tells us

Yulia Hadartseva

a placement psychologist, author of the book “About Money”.

As you meet the New Year, so it and live it. Some people take this phrase so literally that they celebrate the holidays as if it were the last time. The result – weight gain, fatigue and emotional dissonance. I will tell you where the desire for New Year’s “mayhem” comes from and how to get out of the holidays with minimal losses.

Holidays to the fullest: a generic program

Very often people perceive New Year’s holidays as a challenge: they are sure that they should live them in such a way that they will be remembered for a year to come (unfortunately, with negative consequences). That’s why they celebrate to such an extent that they can’t return to their usual life for a long time.

What is the reason for this? First of all, the experience of our parents and the ancestral program embedded in us. Our ancestors had very little rest. Our moms and dads had only 28 days of legal vacation, and New Year holidays. Therefore, it was customary to celebrate them as pompously as possible.

As a rule, on such a solemn occasion porcelain sets were taken out, money was saved and scarce sausage was bought, hostesses tried to surprise guests with exquisite dishes.

All this was done in the New Year’s Eve hustle and bustle. But we live in a different time, when sets are used much more often, and few people are surprised by delicacies.

We can eat herring under a fur coat on a regular basis, and we don’t have to wait until New Year’s vacations to set a festive table and treat ourselves to something delicious. We don’t have to wait for weekends, vacations, vacations to relax and spend time in our own pleasure.

What post-New Year’s syndrome leads to

Despite the abundance that reigns around us, many people remain hostage to generic programs. They continue to celebrate festively, long, albeit to their own detriment.

What can this ultimately lead to? To the development of post-New Year’s syndrome and an extreme form of stress – depression.

In addition, if we lie around the TV for two weeks, eating bowls of olivier, it will be uncomfortable not only for our psyche, but also for our physical body.

Here told how to stay healthy during the holidays.

This will guarantee a long recovery period. We will have to get in shape and get rid of intoxication. Therefore, it will not be possible to immediately get into the working mode.

How to enter 2023 without consequences for the psyche and body

In order to avoid such consequences, it is important to competently plan your vacations and spend them actively.

We live in times when it is not necessary to stand in a huge queue for sausage. Nowadays you don’t have to set a table that is bursting with food. And you certainly don’t have to stress yourself out trying to make dozens of salads in advance.

We can buy fresh produce and ready meals, delicacies at any time of the day or even night. And, of course, it is within our power to set the table in a way that allows our bodies to stay in a healthy state and quality fitness.

The second thing to do is to study the holiday poster in advance and plan interesting events to attend. As an option – go on a trip at least to a neighboring city. You can arrange a family outing to the theater or cinema.

Here are some more creative ideas to celebrate New Year’s Eve in a different way than usual.

Also be sure to include sports in your New Year’s celebrations. Don’t neglect your workouts in favor of layered salads and poured fish. Then your body will thank you.

Another option is to consider the vacations as an opportunity for personal growth. So, instead of endlessly watching Christmas comedies, you can take an educational course, read a book you’ve been wanting to read, start a useful habit (for example, start meditating).

In other words, do everything to make sure that the vacations do not turn into a degradation of your mental and physical state. Allow yourself to enter the working day energized, rested and happy.
