Who is such a remarkable person and whether it is possible to become him? A psychologist tells us

When people say that a person is outstanding, what do they mean? Standing out among others, outstanding – perhaps such characteristics are meant here. An outstanding person is someone who does not blend in with the gray mass. He is unique. He has outstanding abilities, qualities.

In general, to grasp the meaning of this concept, it is not necessary to climb into the dictionary, and to try it on yourself, not necessarily right now to embark on incredible achievements. For starters, read what our expert Maria Danina, PhD in Psychology, thinks about uncommonness .

“Your attention, which seeks to share among themselves not only relatives, but also the media, entertainment industry, technology giants, marketers – the most important currency of modern information society.

The desire of people to surprise the whole world, to show something unexpected, to be remembered and earn additional approval, is supported and reinforced by this state of affairs. The cult of individuality, in which originality and uniqueness are especially valued, leads to the fact that people are increasingly looking for ways to demonstrate uncommonness”.

It should be said that this has not always been the case. Moreover, in different epochs and in a number of cultures, on the contrary, uniformity and equality were valued. If a person turned out to be “different”, it could be not only shameful, but also dangerous for his life.

Today, in the Western world, things are different, and many people wonder if their lives are too boring. They wonder how to become a person who will be said to be special. But are there really mediocre and unremarkable people?

When we hear “unremarkable personality”, it is often associated with the concept of “charisma”. Is it possible to pump it up? Read more at the link.

The truth is that we really are all different. It’s just that some people are less aware of their individuality and therefore cannot fully express it. They are more likely to rely on what the majority around them are doing than what they like themselves.

This is not to say that there can’t be coincidences. Sometimes we do wholeheartedly agree with what’s popular. But admitting to ourselves that we are attracted to something that is not shared by the majority can be difficult, scary and embarrassing. There is another obstacle, which is the inaccessibility of information or the experience of participating in something beyond the realities of our normal lives.

If a person travels a lot, reads, communicates with representatives of a wide range of diverse professions and interests, he has more chances to recognize his individuality. The chances are less for someone who has never changed his place of residence, has been surrounded by the same people and has not developed informationally. The less diversity there is in our surroundings, the more monotonous our everyday life and reasoning become.

Trying to be “different” is definitely not something that is healthy for us. In searching for ways to surprise others, we can easily lose ourselves. But to discover our individuality is a clear goal that is both achievable and very satisfying. To realize it, it is important to gain a wide variety of experiences, communicate with people of sometimes polar life positions, listen to your emotions, try new things and learn the courage to be yourself.

So, what does it mean to be extraordinary? The word sounds as if we are talking about something unattainable, available only to a few. In fact, we are talking about what each of us has from birth – individuality. We just need to get to it and be determined to manifest it. You are a truly remarkable person, you just don’t know it yet.
