Everyone to the subbotnik: PSA OPEN 2018 on the legendary glass court

It’s worth seeing! For the first time in Russia, squash competitions will be held on a unique glass court.

OnMarch 22-25, Moscow will host an international squash tournament among professionals, the final of which will be held on a unique glass court for the first time in the history of Russian squash (it will be installed in the atrium of one of the largest shopping and entertainment complexes Metropolis). All games preceding the finals will be held on the territory of the National Squash Center, the largest squash club in the capital. The tournament is listed in the official Professional Squash Association (PSA) calendar.

Subbotnik PSA Open 2018 starts on Thursday, March 22, with qualifying matches on the squash center courts. Quarterfinals, semifinals and the final match, which will be held on March 25, will be held on the glass court in the shopping center “Metropolis”.

Muscovites and guests of the capital are waiting for a real sports festival: an opportunity to see the amazing game of squash professionals, who are in the top 10O of the world ranking, and if you want and try squash yourself, being inside an unusual glass court next to an experienced coach. In between competitions free master classes and trial lessons for children and adults will be organized on the court.

World squash championships are unforgettable shows that take place on glass courts located in the most famous and sometimes unexpected places. For example, in Trafalgar Square in London, at the foot of the Egyptian pyramids in Cairo, at Grand Central Station in New York. Holding key matches in this format has become a traditional and expected event in the world of squash. Thousands of spectators witness a sporting competition, whose high speeds and prohibitive concentration of players are limited by 4 walls and 64 square meters.

The tournament was organized by the National Squash Center, which set itself the goal to develop this sport in our country, to instill the culture of playing squash and to move it from the status of “mysterious-sounding, obscure, elite” to the status of “well-known, popular, accessible”. Even the name of the tournament – Subbotnik – was not accidental. This is how the weekly competitions among amateur players, held in Moscow on Saturdays, have been called for many years. Now Squash Subbotnik is reaching the international level and becoming a real festival of sport.

Squash, which appeared in the middle of the XIX century in England and remained a game of British aristocrats and later Wall Street financiers, is gradually gaining popularity in Russia, attracting to the courts not only top managers of large corporations and show business stars, but also everyone who is ready to plunge into the atmosphere of sports leisure and bright emotions. And there are more and more people willing to try this racquet sport played by presidents and prime ministers, actors and musicians.

Entrance for the tournament spectators is free. There are no age restrictions.
