There are countless different studios, halls and other activities in Moscow. Your eyes are scattered. If you want to start practicing sports, but are lost in the variety of offers, perhaps a FITMOST subscription will be a good solution. I have experienced such a subscription on myself, tried 4 new sports in a week and I am ready to share my impressions.
Ashtanga yoga
Studio: Yoga Space
Metro stations: Pushkinskaya, Tverskaya, Chekhovskaya.
Training time: 90 minutes
Equipment: comfortable sports clothes.
Ashtanga yoga is quite an active practice, so I chose it. Yoga Space has a group for beginners, which is where I signed up. The hall itself is located quite conveniently. It’s not very big, but it’s cozy inside. The changing rooms have everything you need, including clean towels. You can drink water or hot tea in the kitchenette. In the hall itself there are mats, which are treated with a special solution before training. The workout itself is quite intense. It was my first experience in yoga, so at first I didn’t always fully understand what to do, but I quickly got into it and after a couple of tips from the instructor I felt confident. The workout itself combines a lot of flexibility, breath control and physical strength exercises. I have to say that I managed to exhaust myself, but stretched well and was happy as a child when I could “wrap” myself into another pose. At the end of the workout, it’s supposed to be completely relaxing, getting comfortable with a plaid blanket and the lights off. This was the best part because the pleasant tiredness, breath control and relaxation opens up the body in a new way, like finding uncharted islands within yourself. After the workout, I decided it was worth it to learn more about yoga and maybe come back to the studio again.
Cycling
Studio: Rock the Cycle
Metro station: Belorusskaya
Training time: 45 minutes
Equipment: comfortable sports clothes, smartphone.
Is cycling in the gym boring? No way! Rock my Trip workout turned out to be very incendiary and hot! At the beginning of the workout, the group chooses a route through one of the metropolitan areas. You will not just pedal, but ride through this city with all its features of relief, on the wall there will be streets on which you ride, and a cheerful playlist to set the right pace. Tested – if you catch the rhythm of the music and pedal to the beat, you will comfortably ride the distance at the right speed. To ride the route correctly you will be supervised by a trainer to adjust the load, keep the pace and use the right riding technique. The 45 minute workout proves to be quite grueling, but a drive. I suggest bringing water and a towel. If you bring your smartphone and have the foresight to download the app, the results of the workout will stay in your gadget. For me, a person who does not like running, saikling is a great alternative to cardio training. A few words about the gym. I was pleasantly surprised by the attitude to the client. The studio itself is very cozy and stylish. At the entrance you will be matched with cycling shoes, in a spacious changing room will be waiting for 2 towels and everything you need, men even have a gel for hair styling.
Thai boxing
Studio: MSK CrossFit
Metro station: “Kropotkinskaya”.
Training time: 90 minutes
Equipment: comfortable sports clothes, sneakers.
Muscovites love to have fun at Krasny Oktyabr, but there is also a great gym here. Very stylish, new and cozy. In addition to Thai boxing there is also classical, women’s kickboxing, as well as crossfit for different levels of training, stretching, gymnastics. As for the Thai boxing workout, it is quite productive. It will be better if you already have at least some experience in martial arts and your own equipment. However, if you’ve wanted to start going to martial arts for a long time, it’s definitely worth going in and taking a closer look.
Calisthenics
Studio: NINJAFIT
Metro station: “Begovaya”
Session time: 60 minutes
Equipment: comfortable sports clothes, sneakers
The NinjaFit gym is a training track, a power obstacle course. You can sign up for a group that trains directly on this route. I went for calisthenics – strength training with your own weight, which are very popular now. The group on the route was working out in parallel and I can say that it looked fascinating. On the calisthenics, we worked on two arm strength output and push-ups against the wall. Not everyone was successful. The class was interesting, the coach showed an individual approach, gave valuable advice and encouragement. In order not to demotivate yourself and learn strength exercises effectively, I would recommend to sign up for training if you have a sufficient level of physical fitness and you can confidently pull up at least 10 times. However, if you have the desire, they will teach a beginner everything. At my training session there were 2 girls in the group at once and they coped, so calisthenics is not only for men. I recommend bringing a bottle of water and a towel for the shower. You may also want to bring workout gloves. If your hands aren’t used to the tourniquet, you’re likely to get blisters. If you go to the calisthenics regularly, then in a couple of months you will be able to show good results and do spectacular exercises.
General recommendations
The experience of using a FITMOST subscription itself left a pleasant impression. From a large number of studios you can find something to your liking, look at different sports and halls. I would advise you to find studios that you like and go to them, because regularity is the most important thing in training. Going to a new group every time is stressful, the first part of your workout is going to be getting in and fitting in.
Here are some tips to make sure your workout leaves a good impression:
1. Arrive a little early so that you have time to formalize at the entrance and get changed
2. Before your first workout, contact the studio to see if the level of training is right for you so you don’t end up in a group that is too experienced or vice versa. I was so unable to get into fencing because one of the gyms didn’t indicate on the application that their group workouts are not for beginners.
3. Check on the app to see if the studio has free towels, water, if you need equipment with you.
4. Feel free to ask questions: to the gym, the support in the app, the on-site gym staff, or other attendees. If something is not completely clear, it is better to clarify, you will be happy to help.
