Boxing for beginners: where to start at the first training session?

In the past, martial arts was considered one of the ways to determine the strongest. It was a way of survival, an option to show your physical strength. However, all this is in the past. This is the XXI century, mankind is developing, and now martial arts are full-fledged representatives of the world of sports. Boxing is one of the types of martial arts.

Boxing is a sport where athletes go out to fight not just to win and get an award. It is a philosophy of life expressed in action. Before mastering boxing, it is necessary to learn the basics. Ilya Frank, an expert and coordinator of sport martial arts direction of the federal network of X-Fit fitness clubs, will help us with this .

The most important thing in boxing is the stance

The stance is a universal thing, it is different for all boxers. When a boxer becomes more experienced, he has to change his stance for more effective defense and attack. The athlete has to stand in a position where the opponent cannot attack easily. Also, the boxer should not forget about the counter punches that he needs to throw. It is very important to keep your feet not too wide and not too narrow. A wide stance will not give you the mobility you need, and with a narrow stance you will be easily knocked off your feet. So the best option is to keep your feet at pelvic width.

Attacking Zones

To learn the basics of such a sport as boxing, a novice boxer must know where to strike first. The most productive punches are thrown to:

  • the solar plexus area;
  • the liver area;
  • the ribs.

Also punches should be applied to the chin and temple area. The main task of the boxer is to stand and cover all vulnerable places.

Necessary defense

A good stance assumes in itself the protection of the chin and liver with the help of the right hand. Straighten the back, and the abdomen should be drawn in. Knees should be slightly bent, because the legs act as large rigid springs, and the boxer constantly uses them. The right leg is a pushing leg, that is, the athlete does not stand on his heels. This is necessary for quick movement from place to place. In this way we provide a mobile defense, which will allow to mislead the opponent, committing feints and provocations. The more mobile the body and the body, the better for the athlete. Defense should be multifaceted.

Types of punches

There are three types of punches that are performed by boxers:

  • straight punches;
  • side punches;
  • punches from the bottom.

All of these punches are performed in different planes. The straight punch is basically a short punch. The shoulder moves to the chin, the hand is an extension of the forearm. Such a technique is performed directly with the index and middle fingers. On this part of the fist, the athlete takes the main load of the blow.

It is necessary to precisely observe the technique, because with an incorrect blow it is possible to get an injury (cracks, sprains, etc.). From the very beginning, the beginner needs to put the punch, so that in the future there were no problems with the wrong blow. To correct the punch, the athlete does push-ups on his fists. When a boxer does push-ups, he will not be able to put his fist unevenly, as this will immediately cause discomfort. Such an exercise immediately helps to put the necessary punch.

With the front hand, the athlete holds the opponent for distance. The far hand he uses to make a punch. Side kicks are effective at a distance, when the opponent is far away from you. They are often used at the beginning of a fight. Side kicks from the bottom are more common for people who want to attack at medium to close range. These punches are striking punches, as they cause maximum damage.

Strikes from the bottom are very similar to side punches, they are applied at the same distance, but the boxer changes the plane, and it is performed from bottom to top. The peculiarity is that the body of the athlete must make a bottom-up movement, that is, twist. When a beginner masters all three types of blow and stance, he begins to practice and begins to combine the knowledge gained. Next, the athlete masters double and triple kicks (doubles, mailman), using the already learned stance.

Tips for beginners

  1. Do not neglect protection. For training you need to wear a helmet, gloves. It is necessary to learn how to competently bandage hands. Need quality ammunition that meets all standards. Let it be expensive, but such equipment will allow you to preserve the health of your joints. Make yourself a good mouth guard, so that it does not dangle in the mouth. For this, it is desirable to consult a dentist.
  2. Follow a sports regimen. Every athlete should develop a diet, water intake and sleep regimen. All this is determined individually with a professional and a doctor. Your health and training will also depend on it. Also, you should not chase more difficult elements.
  3. Do not work until you are completely exhausted. You should keep a certain time of workout so that you don’t overdo it. Trying hard is certainly good, but it will affect your body and will quickly discourage you from boxing in the future.
