Dump the ballast: how to lose weight quickly after the New Year vacations

The New Year holidays are over, and that means it’s time to get in shape! Hardly anyone is happy about a couple of extra pounds gained because of olivier and coldcock. Together with nutriciologist and personal trainer Andrei Semeshov, we are going to find out how to get back the “last year’s” figure.

Can weight go away by itself?

It would seem, why limit yourself in food and increase the amount of exercise, if the “holiday” kilograms were gained because of an exceptional situation? It will go away on its own! In fact, the body will not be able to return to its former state so easily, even if you restore the usual diet.

Andrei: There are chances that a couple of extra kilograms will “stick”. Why does this happen? The body before the holidays kept the weight unchanged, because the person adhered to a certain habitual diet. At the holidays, a person gains 1-2 kg, and the body later begins to “carry” them on itself. He simply does not perceive them negatively. For him, these kilograms are a reserve for a rainy day, in case of hunger. Therefore, you will have to make efforts to get back in shape.

How to get rid of “holiday” kilograms?

Nutriciologist identifies two main ways to lose weight after the holidays:

  • reduce the usual diet;
  • increase physical activity.

Andrei: I advocate a mixed approach with a bias in favor of increasing physical activity. Adding movement activity is not as hard as it seems. If you walk 5,000-6,000 steps a day, try walking 12,000 steps for two weeks. Put the car farther than usual, get off the streetcar two stops earlier, go for a walk in the evening.

How to normalize nutrition?

The expert does not recommend exhausting yourself with diets. Everything should be approached consciously and with a sober head. One of the options to move from mayonnaise salads to proper nutrition is to order ready-made meals.
