Like Kim: U.S. Olympic team to wear Skims underwear

Kim Kardashian is making a childhood dream come true.

It was recently revealed that Kim Kardashian’s brainchild, Skims, has signed a contract with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. As part of this cooperation, the brand presented a capsule collection, which will include underwear, pajama sets and clothes for recreation athletes. But anyone will be able to buy things, from July 12 on the website of the brand is scheduled to start sales. The photo model announced on her social media that Skims will become the official underwear supplier for the US national team. In the post, Kardashian posted photos of athletes wearing the very same lingerie: Paralympic track and field athlete Scout Bassett, world track and field champion Dalaila Muhammad, soccer player Alex Morgan and swimmer Hailey Anderson. It’s important to note that the athletes were involved in the creation of the lineup.

In the photo caption, Kim shared why this collaboration is so important to her: “Since I was 10 years old, I’ve heard every detail about the Olympics from my stepdad. Watching the athletes compete, I began to understand what an honor it was to be a part of the Olympics. I traveled with my stepdad and family to different cities for Olympic tryouts, the Olympics, and track and field events and everywhere I went I bought an Olympic t-shirt as a souvenir.

When I received the call inviting Skims to be a part of Team USA, every moment I spent admiring the strength and energy of the Olympians from the sidelines came full circle. I am honored to announce that Skims is designing official underwear, pajamas and lounge wear for the Tokyo 2020 athletes.”

About the collection

This is the first time something other than official outfits and ceremony suits are being produced for the U.S. National Team. The latter is traditionally made for the national team by Ralph Lauren. Lingerie and clothes for athletes’ recreation are made in minimalist style: the only prints on them are the Team USA inscription, a small American flag and Olympic rings. All models are made of natural fabrics in pastel colors (white, beige, gray and azure). Kim and her team of designers have thought through every detail to make it comfortable for the athletes to move around in Skims clothes. So, instead of bodices with boning, the brand decided to produce tops with a wide elastic band so that they fit snugly to the body.

It is not surprising that the US Olympic team chose Skims. In its collections the brand embodies everything that is especially important for an athlete: comfort, minimalism and quality. The trend for minimalism entered the fashion agenda a few years ago and is still gaining momentum. In my practice, I can see that more and more people are turning to it. The absence of unnecessary details, laconic forms, pastel colors are attractive to consumers.
