“Sharp Visors,” “The Office” and other favorite David Beckham shows

Films about epidemics are already boring, your favorite football/hockey/basketball matches are also worn out, and even all the new movies have been reviewed long ago. Now you don’t know what to do? To the rescue will come superstar of world soccer David Beckham and his selection of favorite series.

“Sharp Visors.”

One of the main hits of recent years – a British series about gangsters, whose distinctive feature, according to legend, were sharpened razor blades sewn into the visors of caps. The story is based on true events, set in Birmingham between World War I and World War II.

The Shelby brothers – gang leaders – return from the war and begin to organize their lives in peacetime, fighting for power in the city. At first they are engaged in betting on horse races, then they begin to produce counterfeit alcohol, gaining more and more weight, along the way forming both enemies and friends in the criminal world. The gang brings terror to the whole city, but at the same time its leaders observe their own code of honor, value family and are always responsible for their words.

Magnificent cast, costumes, amazing soundtrack and gloomy atmosphere of England of 1920s – the series captures from the first minutes. It has everything – gangster squabbles, conspiracies, betrayals, confrontations with the police and, of course, nowhere to go and from the love storyline. Five seasons have already been released, and two more are promised.

Beckham is so enamored with the series that a year ago he launched a line of clothing in the style of “Trumps”. It is produced under the brand Kent & Curwen, the co-owner of which is a soccer star. And soon he himself visited the filming of the series.

“American Family.”

In the original series is called “Modern Family”, which already implies that it will not be about the usual “mom, dad, son and daughter”. “American Family” – a kind of concentrate of modern American families, where there is an aging man married to a young stroppy Latina, who, in addition, has his own child at a difficult age. And a typical mom of a large family with a young husband, a bunch of kids and all the problems that come with it. And as the cherry on the cake – a gay male couple with an adopted daughter. All this is one big and very funny family, whose life viewers can watch in the format of “mokyumentary”.

The popularity of the series is evidenced by its longevity – the first season was shown in 2009, the finale of the final 11 season was released in early April 2020. So if you haven’t seen a single episode yet, now is the perfect chance to watch it all in one go.

By the way, Beckham starred in one of the episodes of the last season in a cameo role.

“Losers” (“Glee”).

Series-musical about a Spanish teacher in an ordinary American school, who as a child himself sang in the choir, and now full of enthusiasm to revive it, to perform at competitions and put musicals. At first, outcasts – disabled people – join the choir, then the popular kids pull up. In addition to the songs (700 songs were performed in the whole series), the plot is based on the relationships of the main characters, their growing up and solving everyday difficulties. Comedy and drama, joys and disappointments, and all this in a musical setting.

The series won four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes, songs and albums performed by the school choir were sold in platinum copies.

Beckham admitted that he likes to watch the series with his wife Victoria – who was a popular singer in the 1990s.

“Friends

I’m a big fan of “Friends.” I know the show is years old, but I can rewatch it over and over again. I love it.

One of the top shows of all time that needs no introduction. 10 seasons, telling about the company of six completely different friends who get into funny situations, quarrel, make peace and love.

Almost all the action unfolds in two apartments and one coffee shop, but viewers are not bored for a minute – thanks to the colorful characters and their beautiful embodiment, as well as hilarious dialogues, on which the whole series is based. And even if you know what Phoebe or Joey will do next, you can’t help but laugh.

The main characters of “Friends” have become almost native to more than one generation of young people, and many of them, like Beckham, periodically revisit this so sincere and naive series.

“The Office”

If “Friends” can be called the best sitcom in the world, then “The Office” – one of the best and most successful examples of comedy in the genre of “mokyumentary”. The Americans took a rather specific English mini-series about the life of an ordinary office headed by an idiot boss and developed it into a real saga.

The work of a regional office of a company selling paper in an out-of-the-way American town may seem boring only at first sight. In fact, there is a complete shambles here, which is ruled by a naive and inept boss, who does not understand even thick hints. The series begins with the fact that the company threatens to close one of the branches, and the office workers must do everything possible to prevent this from happening. All the characters are with their own cockroaches, and everyone has to interact with each other and get along in a small space. They are ridiculous, funny and very touching.

The zest of the series adds not only filming in the spirit of reality TV, but also the fact that many dialogues are based on improvisation. By the way, the creators of the English “Office” acted as executive producers of the American version.
