What to eat at the airport, so as not to get fat and not to harm your health

What is better to eat at the airport?

We tell you together with a nutritionist.

When you are waiting for a flight, you always want something to eat. Usually fast food restaurants and vending machines with unhealthy snacks come into play, and less often, there are freeze bars. That said, the latter option seems to be the healthiest. But in any case, there are chances to run into a low-quality product. What to pay attention to when choosing food at the airport, so as not to harm your figure and health?

The traditional cafe of any airport usually has good alternatives for safe food.

When traveling, keeping track of the quality of food is not easy. And it’s not just that thoughts are preoccupied for the most part with the journey itself. The problem is different – it is quite difficult to find healthy food options in airports. You have to settle for either nothing or fast food restaurants, simply put, fast food. Both options are so-so. How then do you maintain a conscious approach to eating away from home?

Take healthy snacks with you

Take fresh fruits and vegetables from home, such as a banana. The product is rich in potassium, which normalizes blood pressure, helps ease muscle cramps during flight and restores water-alkaline balance. In addition, bananas are easy to eat and have a low glycemic index (51) – that is, they are quickly digested and quickly “recharge”.

In addition to fruit, a bar of bitter chocolate, nuts, dried fruit, whole-grain rice crackers, protein bars are suitable as a snack.

Pay attention to the vending machines with food and drinks

Elena: Sometimes they sell dairy products and healthy snacks, nuts or granola bars. Now the range of such machines is expanding, manufacturers follow fashionable trends in nutrition. Therefore, being at the airport, look around: if there is not near you a machine that sells not only chips and cookies.

Give preference to simple dishes

Elena: For example, instead of desserts, you can order porridge with healthy additives such as berries, nuts, honey or dried fruit. Of the more complex dishes, you can always find soup, vegetables and chicken breast.

Avoid heavy meals

In order not to run every five minutes to the toilet on board, it is better to refrain from fatty foods, legumes, smoked, fast food, cabbage and carbonated drinks before the flight. They often cause flatulence.

Snack before going out

There is every chance of getting very hungry if you don’t. The flight may only take an hour, but there are still plenty of other things to do before then. Finding the check-in desk, carrying your suitcase and going through pre-flight security checks is an energy-consuming endeavor.

Stop by the store

Elena: Every airport has grocery stores. They may be small, but they have the essentials. There you can find a ready salad, yogurt or kefir, healthy bars (especially protein bars). Do not hesitate to ask the seller for help and clarify what is available from healthy snacks in the assortment.

The airport has a special atmosphere, even romantic to some extent. Sitting by yourself, watching the others and wondering where they are going. Enjoying dessert with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. But no matter how appealing this idea may seem, it is better to give up junk food. After all, under the influence of emotions, you can easily overlook and eat more than usual. And then suffer the whole flight from discomfort in the stomach and negative thoughts.
