The vacation season is coming soon, and if a beautiful body on the beach is no surprise to anyone, then diving is a great way to be in the spotlight. Our tips will be useful for beginners and even for those who have bravely jumped from the pier to the sea more than once.
– How to properly prepare for the jump? What exercises should be included in your warm-up?
– Warming up dive jumpers resembles any other acrobatic sport: you need to stretch everything from the neck to the toes. The thing is that when pushing off or entering the water there can be a sharp amplitude movement of any part of the body, so a light jog is not enough. You need twines, and bridges, and folds, and flapping movements of the arms and elbows.
– What should be considered when jumping into the water in an unfamiliar place?
– First of all, you need to check the bottom. Always. Make sure not only with the depth, but also that there are no foreign objects or divers. And in a place that is not intended for jumping into the water, it is better not to jump at all, and if you dive, then provide for the presence of those who will pull you out if something goes wrong. And banal advice: do not be too confident in yourself.
– How to overcome your fear of jumping?
– It’s simple. Start with a small height. If you have climbed higher and you are enveloped by a constraining fear, then go lower, and everything will be fine! In no case you should close your eyes and jump from a series of “what will be”, approach the process gradually.
– Obviously, jumping “soldier” is the easiest. How not to be embarrassed on the beach, if everyone around you jump “fish”, and you perform the simplest jump?
– The first rule, how not to embarrass yourself: do not do what you are not sure. You need to remember that the apparent simplicity of jumping into the water hides a lot of subtleties, from the fact that the entrance on the stomach or on the back has painful sensations, to the fact that when pushing off there is a chance to slip and smack on the floor. The smartest thing to do is to attend a training session before the beach season starts and learn how to do it right in a couple of sessions.
– Is it possible to learn how to do complicated jumps on your own?
– You can, but it’s dangerous. I personally know several self-taught daredevils from Europe, who learned to perform triple and even quadruple turns from 20-25 meters. But these are real exceptions. Behind one such daredevil who has learned something, there are 99 who have something gone wrong.
– Is it possible to lose excess weight by practicing diving?
– Sure, you just need to eat less between jumps! And seriously, the acrobatic training required for diving involves a lot of exercises in the gym, so people get in good shape quite quickly with regular training.
– Are there any contraindications for diving?
– To the specific ones can be attributed some chronic diseases related to the ears. There is nothing to be done here, such people also have problems with baths, water parks, etc. The rest of the contraindications are the same as for other sports.
People do diving until they are 100 years old, it’s not a joke.
By the way, according to IOC statistics, diving is one of the safest sports, on par with synchronized swimming practically. Serious injuries are extremely rare, unlike hockey or javelin throwing.
People have been diving for up to 100 years, it’s no joke.
– What are some common mistakes that can be made when diving and what are the consequences?
– The most unpleasant thing can be hitting a fulcrum. Especially often at sea it happens when people try to demonstrate a backflip while drunk: the head is thrown back even before pushing off, then instead of jumping in the opposite direction there is a movement straight up (even a little forward) and landing on the edge of the board with a blow with different limbs is ensured. With systematic preparation, thorough warm-up and healthy diet, the chances of getting something serious are close to zero even from 10 meters. Although, of course, you need to be able to overcome yourself to jump from a great height for the first time.
– Will it be easier for a guy with good physical fitness to make a perfect jump than for a fragile girl?
– Absolutely. But the main thing in diving is psychology, so if a girl is psychologically stronger, the progress will be much faster. This is still a technical discipline, connected with overcoming, so in terms of progress the girls are even better. They’re either more desperate or more courageous. I can’t figure it out.
The most important thing in diving is to realize that no thrill and people’s attention is not worth your health. You need to have basic training and, of course, be mentally prepared. With the right combination of all factors, you will get a portion of adrenaline and will be able to surprise everyone. So bravely get out of the gym and go for a workout in the pool!
