“The board cost 28,000 rubles.” How much does it cost to raise a snowboarding son?

Children love to go down the mountain at high speed, and it’s not just sledding and ice skating, but snowboarding as well. Snow-white desert and frosty air accompany athletes on their way. But before racing down the slopes, you need to buy everything you need for your lessons.

We continue our text series about the costs of children’s sections. Today the mom of a young snowboarder from Saratov shares her experience with us.

When my son was 4.5 years old, we decided to introduce him to downhill skiing. He didn’t like them and wanted to try snowboarding. That’s where it started. A year later he was enrolled in a children’s snowboarding school. Now every fall we as a family look forward to the snow. Now my son is 13 and a half years old. For nine years of snowboarding he has been a participant, winner and medalist of numerous city and regional competitions.

Snowboard and boots

The child is engaged since five and a half years at school, skates in the discipline of snowboard-cross, so the boards are slightly different from the standard ones. During this time, snowboards were different: and for 6 thousand, and for 9 thousand, the most expensive cost 28 thousand rubles. These amounts are not the limit, there are for 50 thousand and 120 thousand, but here everyone chooses according to their capabilities.

Boots cost 23 thousand rubles, bindings for them bought for 12 thousand. Shoes are enough for one or two seasons, as the child’s foot grows. It is possible to buy used equipment: it happens that people take it for themselves, but after the first trips they sell it at a discount. Often you can find very good deals.

Protection

Snowboarding is a rather extreme sport, so it is necessary to ensure maximum safety. Special shorts cost from 3,5 to 5 thousand rubles. Protection for the back “Turtle” costs an average of 5-7 thousand. The kneepads and elbow pads are suitable for any, will cost about 1.5 thousand, but can be more expensive if you choose something branded. The helmet was bought for 6 thousand, but this is not the limit of cost.

Outfit

Thermal underwear can be bought any, we took for 4-5 thousand. Balaclava will cost about a thousand, the mask will be more expensive, about 4-5 thousand rubles, but this figure can vary to infinity. Gloves cost an average of 3.5 thousand, they are enough for one or two seasons. Prices for a ski suit are different, starting at 10 thousand, but can be much higher. A snowboard bag was taken for 3 thousand rubles.

Classes

Classes are free three times a week for two hours on the mountain, one day a week elevator is paid independently. You can come to the slope without a coach, paying only for a ski pass.

Competitions

The starting fee is about 700 rubles. Last time the trip to Samara with the whole family cost about 20 thousand rubles, even though we went by car. In Tashtagol for the competitions in January we spent about 50-60 thousand, but that’s with accommodation, meals and ski passes. Travel not only helps children develop in sports, but also unites families, such trips will be remembered for a lifetime.

Sport is not only about physical fitness and achievements, it is about friendship, unity and teamwork. It is thanks to a good team that a child finds friends and like-minded people, makes new discoveries with them and reaches ever greater heights.
