The morning does not start with coffee: how and when to drink freeshes, so as not to harm your health

It is a well-known fact that the breakfast of Europeans is often not without juice. While in Russia they prefer to drink tea or coffee in the morning, in Europe the day begins with juice. Of course, frees are a huge concentration of vitamins and useful substances that give the body a “charge” for the whole day. But is it possible to constantly drink freshly squeezed juices in the morning? And what fruits or vegetables are better to give preference? Elena Eisenberg, certified health coach, nutritionist from California and speaker of the International Festival of Sports and Healthy Lifestyle SN PRO EXPO FORUM, will help us find the answers to these questions

Can I drink fresh juices in the morning?

Elena: In the morning, before breakfast, your stomach is as empty as possible – it’s the perfect time to drink a portion of your favorite frosh. It is best to drink it on an empty stomach. If you consume freeshes several times a day, do so at least twenty minutes before or two hours after a meal. When your stomach is empty, absorption of vitamins and nutrients from the juice is most efficient.

What are the harms of drinking freeshes?

Despite its many health benefits, drinking freeshes can be dangerous for people who have chronic health conditions. For example, citrus juices are contraindicated for people with peptic ulcers or gastritis, and almost all fruit juices are contraindicated for diabetics. But even if you don’t have any serious illnesses, fresh juices should be used very carefully.

Elena: Fresh fruit juices are low in fiber. Juicing fruits or vegetables removes most of it, which is vital for a healthy diet. Adequate fiber intake supports heart health by helping to control blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol levels.

Fresh juices tend to be low in fiber and protein, two nutrients that keep blood sugar levels balanced. Freshes made only from vegetables contain fewer carbohydrates and are unlikely to negatively affect sugar levels. However, if you prefer fruit juices, the sugar in fruit can contribute to an unwanted spike.

A nutriciologist advises extra caution with store-bought juices, as they may contain added sugar. Check the label and make sure the only ingredients are fruits or vegetables.

Green vegetables are a rich source of oxalic acid or oxalate, which is considered an anti-nutrient. Too much oxalate can lead to negative health effects including kidney stones, and even kidney failure.

Nutritionist’s advice: if you plan to include juicing in your diet, don’t overdo it, exercise moderation and follow the principles of a balanced diet.

What kind of juice should I choose?

Elena: The more your juice contains fruit, the more calories and sugar (fructose) it contains. You can add an apple, kiwi or a handful of berries to flavor the juice, but the bulk should be from organic green vegetables – spinach, celery, kale or parsley.

Unfortunately, green juice has a stigma for tasting bad, and many people avoid it simply because of the color.
If you’re new to drinking freeshes, start with lighter-flavored vegetables – like celery and cucumbers. Once you get used to it, you can move on to lettuce, spinach, romaine lettuce, kale, and parsley and cilantro. Greens such as cauliflower, leafy cabbage, and dandelion are quite bitter, so you need to start adding them very slowly – a few leaves at a time.

If you want the flavor of the juice to be a little more pleasant, you can add the following items:

  • Limes and lemons: for every liter of juice, add half a whole lime or lemon
  • Cranberries
  • Fresh ginger

What about those who have a contraindication to freshly squeezed juice?

If by the end of this material you suddenly found out that you should not drink freeshes – do not worry, we have found a good alternative.

Elena: I advise you to try ginger tea! Ginger is a popular remedy for stomach ailments: a cup of ginger tea in the morning can relieve stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Preparing ginger tea is simple: add a few tablespoons of finely grated fresh ginger to a glass of boiling water and infuse for five minutes.

Hopefully, now your morning will begin not only with coffee or tea, but also with a real “vitamin charge” in the form of a freesha.
