Is a sore throat really caused by hypothermia?

We are used to “insulate” our necks during winter workouts. But is it so necessary?

Can you get a sore throat if you are cold? What does a sore throat usually cause?

Sore throat, perhaps, the most frequent complaint when applying to therapists, pediatricians and otorhinolaryngologists. Such a symptom accompanies many diseases of the pharynx, larynx. But it can be a manifestation of other pathological conditions that are not related to the upper respiratory tract.

But hypothermia can not always lead to the development of diseases. It depends on the presence of infection on the mucous membranes (you are not in contact with a sick person, you are not a carrier of infection), as well as on whether you harden or not. Hardening is a good training for the body to fight hypothermia.

The causes of sore throat are very diverse:

  • inflammatory diseases of the pharynx (pharyngitis), sore throats (acute tonsillitis);
  • inflammatory diseases of the larynx (laryngitis, epiglottitis, etc.);
  • blood diseases;
  • infectious diseases (diphtheria, etc.), HIV infection;
  • cardiovascular diseases;
  • cervical spine problems;
  • esophageal diseases,
  • thyroid disease, and many others.

Today, there are about 512 known possible factors for sore throat.

And it is understandable:

  • many people gather in one room, closed windows (insufficient ventilation), which leads to more active transmission of the virus;
  • dry and warm air, which lowers the body’s defenses and increases the transmission of viruses and bacteria.
